Update #9
October 30th, 2007 - Our Must Read Stories feature returns for round #9. Each week, we're summing up what we consider not-to-be-missed comic blog reading (or in some cases just plain fun links) from across the web. Our goal is to tie together a solid taste of interesting rumblings you may have missed...
Comic News Site shake-up's continue: There have been a lot of ownership issues when it comes to comic news sites of late. As we reported previously, Newsarama was recently bought [details], Silver Bullet Comics is evolving into a new site [details] and now we have word that Broken Frontier is once more independent of ownership [details]. The times they are a changin'...
Anti-Trust No More: The Comic Reporter [link] shares an interesting press release from ComicsPro detailing the trade organization's stance incorporated an antitrust compliance policy into its by-laws.
CBR Honored: Comic Book Resources has to get the hands down "best in comics" award (if there were one) for this week. Their coverage [link] of comic book creators, stores and comic resources threatened by the recent California wildfires was comic reporting of the best kind. While on this topic, Jim Lee was sharing updates from his perspective over on his blog [here and here]. We feel for those who lost so much over the last week.
ComicSpace eats websites! Thanks to a great pointer from ComicMix [link] we learned that Josh Roberts (owner of ComicSpace and Onlinecomics.net, and administrator of Comixpedia) and Joey Manley (owner of WebComicsNation, TalkAboutComics, Modern Tales, Serializer, Girlamatic, Graphic Smash, and Graphic Novel Review, among others) have announced that they've signed a Letter of Intent to merge their businesses into one corporate entity under ComicSpace. Talk about your powerhouse sites getting even bigger! For an alternate take on the announcement, check out Josh Roberts’ coverage [link] with thanks to Journlista! for the pointer.
Scott Kurtz and PVP: Comic Book Resources scores twice this week as we point you to their interview with Eisner Award winning creator Scott Kurtz [link]. Thanks Scott for 10 years of solid fun!
MODOK Lives! SPX (Small Press Expo) coverage turns pup in the most interesting spots, but who would have seen it making its way onto Marvel's site [link] within the realm of the humorous MODOK blog?
Bendis and the Tigra Controversy: There's been quite a bit of discussion regarding the possible misogynistic overtones found in the beat down of Tigra in New Avengers #35. Laura Hudson over at Myriad Issues [link] does a great job sorting out the issue.
EC Could Have Been... Thanks to Journalista! for the pointer, we point you to Noah Brand's thoughts [link] on what comics today might be like had the EC line of horror and crime titles not been taken out of the market. Interesting reading!
Mirror Image: ComicBookNoise never noticed [link] the similarity between Uncanny X-Men #136 and Crisis on Infinite Earths #7. I have to admit that I never noticed it either.
Zuda, Zuda, Zuda: There's talk everywhere as Zuda Comics begins selecting it's first few for full contracts. Blog@Newsarama [link] and Todd Allen thinks there may be more than meets the eye here [and we're not talking Transformers].
Ritual: Sean Kleefeld's Kleenfeld on Comics has a few interesting thoughts [link] on the importance of Wednesdays and ritual.
Garry Trudeau: Recently we posted a Related Recap on Garry Trudeau's Center for Cartoon Studies appearance [details]. The Burlington Free Press has some great coverage of the event [link] and the AP covered the event [link] as well.
Happy Halloween! We leave you this week with a great Halloween send up by Steve Bissette saluting all things creepy [link] for your holiday viewing pleasure. Cheers!
