Cold Cut Discussion Speaks at Comic Related

Lance StahlbergFebruary 14th - I would like to extend a warm welcome to Lance Stahlberg who joined the Comic Related forum family earlier today. Lance visited us from Rogue Wolf Entertainment (www.rogue-wolf.net), the company that recently purchased the assets of Cold Cut Distribution (www.coldcut.com).

Speaking here on the site he shared, "It's always nice to see positive coverage. Thanks for the kind words guys."

Many members of the Comic Related creator community have been excited to see Cold Cut Distribution, now based in Chicago, move forward and return.

Tom Stillwell of Chicago based Spinner Rack Comics joked about seeking a job with Cold Cut as he knew some of folks at Rogue Wolf. Lance quickly answered that request, "Tom... I'm afraid we're not hiring new employees yet. But your name is on the short list of candidates I have in mind for when the time does come."

The former owners of Cold Cut had a no superhero rule for the books they carried which raised concerns among some within our community that this policy might still be in effect under the new ownership. It looks like they, thankfully, are moving away from that approach.

Lance explains, "As for the old Cold Cut no-tights, rule... I'm another one of those guys that they turned down back in the day for having a superhero book. To me, it honestly doesn't make sense. I think they limited themselves too much, like they weren't targeting 'indie' comics, but only 'alternative' comics."

Welcome news! He continued...

"Our goal is indeed to widen the doors a little. But I'm also here to try to manage expectations.

We're just starting out, and we need to take things one step at a time. I cannot allow myself to make the mistake of so many companies before ours. We're not going to promise the moon and overextend ourselves before we're ready.

First we need to "remodel" a little. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, Cold Cut has been effectively closed since before the holiday. While we're inheriting a solid customer base and an infrastructure capable of rolling orders out the door very quickly, we need to refill some gaps formed during their down time and let all of their customers know that we're back in business.

Pardon my jumping into a new metaphor, but we've got to get back up and walking before we can run.

Then... we'll have some exciting news for you guys."

We're hoping to hear more from Lance, Rogue Wolf and Cold Cut in the days ahead as I believe many in our creator community will be looking to work with them and see their small and independent press titles distributed through the new Cold Cut Distribution. As Lance says, they have to walk before they can run but we here at Comic Related are more than willing to offer a walking stick or two in support as they build momentum.
