Joel Silver on Wonder Woman Now there's an image! Yahoo! has the skinny on the long-in-development hell Wonder Woman movie straight from producer Joel Silver himself. "When I make Wonder Woman I'll probably do it in Australia," the Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta producer revealed. "It makes great sense to me." "I love being in Australia and I love making movies there. Australia is just a comfortable place for me to work." Silver offered little in the way of a start date for the film. "There's no timeframe yet. ... When we have a script we'll make a decision about what we're going to do." As for casting, Silver informed Yahoo, "No, we're not there yet," adding, "We're still writing the script." The lengthy list of rumored Wonder-ful contenders include Mischa Barton and Jessica Biel. Whedon says Wonder Woman Will Face Today's World Even though previous television and comics versions have placed Wonder Woman in the past, Joss Whedon, who is serving as writer-director-producer of the iconic characterŐs upcoming film, insists she'll be living in the 21st century even though she may not be comfortable there, according to an interview with Now Playing magazine. "It goes back to World War II," Whedon said about past incarnations of the Amazonian princess such as the 1970s ABC television show. "However, this will take place in the modern day, but Wonder Woman herself will never be in the modern day." Translation: Wonder Woman, who will travel from Paradise Island to "man's world," will be "a fish out of water" in today's society. Whedon did point out one important difference between Princess Diana and other big screen comic-book heroes. "She doesn't have a villain as recognizable as Superman's Lex Luthor," Whedon said. "In fact, she doesn't have a lot of things as recognizable as a lot of the other heroes have, but that's not a problem simply because she's basically based on Greek mythology, which opens up a world of interesting possibilities." "She's very different from anybody who might have been bitten by a spider or had his parents killed in an alley," he said. Holding out for a heroine: Joss Whedon on Wonder Woman Joss Whedon, the onetime boy wonder who brought TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer to vibrant life for seven seasons, is out to save comic-book legend Wonder Woman from a fate worse than those tacky star-spangled hot pants from the '70s TV series. It's a curse that has yanked the cape of many in her super-powered sisterhood. Namely, a crummy movie adaptation. "I said yes, because in the process of trying to say no, I thought about her character and fell in love with her," says Whedon, who will direct and is currently writing the adventure based on the lone female equal to Batman and Superman in the DC Comics universe. "She is a warrior in a world of complicity and compromise who will never lay down her sword." Cameron Diaz says no to Wonder Woman
Cameron Diaz has reportedly turned down the role of Wonder Woman. Movie bosses had approached the actress to play the scantily clad beauty in an upcoming reworking of the comic book heroine - but she refused because she wants more serious roles. The 32-year-old didn't even look at the script when it was sent to her, according to a report in Britain's Daily Star newspaper. She was said to have rejected the offer immediately. LYNDA CARTER: 'CLINTON IS TODAY'S WONDER WOMAN'
The original WONDER WOMAN insists there's no need for a movie about the superheroine because America's former First Lady is a real-life DIANA PRINCE. LYNDA (corr) CARTER, who played Wonder Woman/Diana Prince in the hit 1970s TV series, believes SENATOR HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON is the living embodiment of the comic book character. She says, "She raised the bar. She's so smart. "Maybe she's ambitious. So what? Maybe she wants to be President. So what? She works her tail off. And she really wants to make the country better." BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER creator JOSH WHEDON is currently working on a movie adaptation of the TV series but has yet to name his star. Lynda Carter Wants a Wonder Woman Film Role The buxom beauty who starred in the iconic 1970s TV show wants to be a part of Joss Whedon’s big screen adaptation. Lynda Carter, beauty queen and actress who played Diana Prince/Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series, told Sci Fi Wire she wants to have a part in Joss Whedon's WW movie. "There is actually this thing on the Internet, like a sign-up campaign, that says, 'We want Lynda in Wonder Woman,'" Carter said. "It's very cute, very sweet. I think it would be great. I'd love to do it." Carter said she'd like to play Diana’s mother: "I just hope that the concept is one that's really about the characters themselves. And I hope they cast [Diana/Wonder Woman] as someone who's got a real heart. If they can do the movie with a heart, no matter what they do, they'll be OK." Whedon says he’ll complete the script this fall. Follow this link for the full story... http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/2155.asp -------------------- Chuck Moore

Joss Whedon Talks Wonder Woman The director talks about the villains, costume, invisible plane, script, plus much more... I understand you’ve not yet written a word of the Wonder Woman screenplay. "Not too many words." You have been working on it? 'The way I work, I’m like a vulture. I circle and circle and then I dive. I usually don’t actually write anything until I know exactly how it’s going to turn out. I don’t 'let the computer take me away.' I’m an absolute Nazi about structure. I make outlines. I make charts and graphs with colors." You’ve done that for Wonder Woman? "Not for Wonder Woman, because I’m still working out the plot. But I’m finding the moments that matter; I’m finding the things that make the story really resonate; the things that I just can’t wait to film. I have great big questions to answer, but I’m in that beautiful, free-form poetical place where you just get to think up moments and see if they fit in your movie. And that’s almost more fun than anything. And that work, which is a vital part of what got me interested in doing the job in the first place, is being done." Joss Whedon on Wonder Woman I understand you’ve not yet written a word of the “Wonder Woman” screenplay. Not too many words. Did you tell Warner Bros. you weren’t keen to deal with it until “Serenity” enters release? Not release. It’s not that I haven’t been working on it. You have been working on it? The way I work, I’m like a vulture. I circle and circle and then I dive. I usually don’t actually write anything until I know exactly how it’s going to turn out. I don’t “let the computer take me away.” I’m an absolute Nazi about structure. I make outlines. I make charts and graphs with colors. You’ve done that for “Wonder Woman”? Not for “Wonder Woman,” because I’m still working out the plot. And that work, which is a vital part of what got me interested in doing the job in the first place, is being done. But I do have to see “Serenity” through. I’ll be finished with the movie within a month but I have to make sure it gets taken care of all the way through release. I have, in the past, found that I was able to do more than one thing at a time. Will Diana be able to fly under her own power, or will an invisible plane be involved? I do not believe she will be flying. I think we have a guy who flies. I don’t see her flying. She might jump. There could be some hopping. And there may in fact be an invisible plane. But if there is, it will be because it came out really cool. And I have theories about how to make that work. You’ve said there will be “no star-spangled panties” like the ones Lynda Carter wore in the old TV series. Are you ruling out star-spangled miniskirts? Not exactly. The look that she’s sporting in DC Comics right now is closer to where I’d have her than the TV series, or the old look. The color scheme and the silhouette have to remain because they’re her. But the American flag is not what she’s going to be wearing. So you’re not ruling out minis? No. She’s still going to look like Wonder Woman. She’s not going to look like Trinity. She’s going to look like Wonder Woman, but she’s just not going to be hokey. In the teaser poster the eagle remains on her chestplate. The eagle is OK with me. Because it’s not like we invented them. It’s a lot less to swallow than the fact that Jor-El wears a big “S.” That bugged me. As you go about casting Diana, do you set a height requirement? How important is it that the Amazon princess be tall? It’s important. I’m looking for somebody statuesque, regal, beautiful, who can really act and do a lot of stunts with no elbow or knee pads. I’m asking a lot. So if I happen to find all those qualities in somebody who does not quite meet my height requirement, I will be casting some really short love interest. The height is definitely a part of the package. But the most important part? No. And the fact of the matter is, a woman stands as tall as she makes you think she is. For example, I always thought [“Buffy” writer-producer] Marti Noxon was four inches taller than she actually was. I just found that out last week. “Wonder Woman” producer Joel Silver prides himself on his casting acumen. Has he yet offered any suggestions? No. You know, we talked specifically about that. And the idea was always, “Write the part, and then we’ll figure it out.” You’ve also talked about her being very young. Are you thinking college-age? Teen-ager? I’d say that’s a pretty flexible thing because it’s her first time setting foot in the world of men. But that doesn’t necessarily mean she has to be a teen-ager. So, yes, they are thinking of a young woman. They’re thinking, I expect, of something franchise-able. Will it be appropriate to describe the “Wonder Woman” movie as a fish-out-of-water tale? I would say very much so. Will this be one of the key ways it distinguishes itself from other superhero movies? Yes, I think so. Ultimately, structurally, yes, that’s a big distinguishing factor, but I think there will be other elements that are specific to her. But then again, I haven’t seen the new “Batman” and I haven’t seen the script for “Supes” [Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Superman Returns” feature]. Will Diana contend with a print-derived supervillain? At this point I’m looking at creating something a little different. I don’t think her rogues gallery necessarily offers me what I need. But that’s not a final decision, that’s just my instinct. Is Zeta 'too Welsh' to play Wonder Woman?
SHE'S only 35 years of age and considered by many to be in her prime, but Catherine Zeta-Jones has been branded "too old" to play the part of Wonder Woman. But it could be deemed a case of sour grapes as the comments have come from original Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter. Lynda has also labelled 40-something Speed actress Sandra Bullock as too over-the-hill to portray the superhero. But Lynda, who recently celebrated her 54th birthday, has said that she would like to have a role herself in the forthcoming Hollywood adaptation of the '70s TV show. Joss Whedon talks to Australia's ABC Radio National
According to Superhero Hype director Joss Whedon talked to Australia's ABC Radio National about his plans for Themiscira's Finest. "We'll meet a Wonder Woman who is similar to the one from the original comics and from the TV series to an extent," said Whedon. "Neither of them are really a template. I've never loved the comics and I didn't watch the television series, but I loved the character very much." He also said, "she doesn't really understand this world, she's very strong but she's also very naive. She's not quite as little as the girls I'm used to writing, but she's definitely one of them in the sense of she'll undergo that kind of baptism of fire that used to be relegated to the male gender. She'll have to come into the world and see how corrupt it is and learn to deal with it and with her own powers. She is kind of, in a way, the grandma of everything I've been writing my whole life, so it makes sense that we should meet." Who's the latest actress with rumors abounding?
Who's the latest actress rumors to be sized up for a Wonder-bustier? CHUD's Dave Davis said, "Fresh from my email inbox, here's another seemingly random actress supposedly interested in the role: saucer-eyed, bounteously bosomed beauty Katherine Heigl, the former 'Roswell' alien and Seagal niece who's currently on the hot hospital series 'Grey's Anatomy.' And while I suspect that (much like the all the Joker talk for the next Batman movie) it's little more than the wishful casting of admirers, or friends or talent representatives getting her name into “interest circulation” even though it'll be many months before casting happens, I guess I'd be remiss if I didn't mention it. And I hate being remiss." Source: http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5890 -------------------- Chuck Moore

Wonder Woman Preview - Joss Whedon Talks Script, Humor and Lynda Carter
The Wonder Woman Problem Only Joss Whedon Could Solve: “Finding out who she was, and that’s all I’m going to say.” Joss Whedon Has Not Already Done Wonder Woman: “No because usually, people I write are very, very down to earth and she’s the opposite. She’s somebody who is supposed to be Wonder Woman and spend her life being Wonder Woman but then she’s still as vulnerable and as new at it as anybody else, but she’s the opposite of every character I’ve ever written.” Follow this link for all the details... http://actionadventure.about.com/od/news/p...s+whedon+wonder -------------------- Chuck Moore

Wonder Woman or X3, How Whedon Chose
The Buffy creator talks about how it all went down with X-Men 3 and Wonder Woman in this interview. CHUD caught up with Joss Whedon, the writer/director who is directing the Wonder Woman movie, about how he chose between that film and X-Men 3. CHUD: What is the schedule for Wonder Woman? Whedon: There's none yet, I'm still writing the script. CHUD: So they haven't come to you with some set in stone tentpole date you have to meet? Whedon: That's exactly why I took the gig. They came at me with Wonder Woman at the same time they came at me with X-Men, and they both had advantages, but X-Men was all about the schedule and Wonder Woman was all about not having a schedule. Joel Silver said, 'She's waited for 60 years, she'll wait a little longer.' CHUD: I think that schedule for X-Men 3, watching it go into production so late, it's scary to look at. Whedon: I had lunch with Avi [Arad] and Lauren [Shuler Donner] and even before the appetizer came I realized, 'Wait a minute, with this date there's no way this can happen. So, what did you order? How you been? How's Ghost Rider going?' CHUD: Since you're going to be doing Wonder Woman is there a chance you'll be jumping over to do DC Comics at some point? Whedon: There's a chance. It's all about time right now. Ultimately I'm not a DC kid. I have a couple of DC crossover things I would love to do, the one I mentioned before being Buffy/Batman, but I was a Marvel boy. The X-Men will be my Marvel run for a while, but that's the mythos I grew up with. It has that resonance, and you need that resonance because you're not going to own anything and it's not like my wife was saying, 'Woo hoo, here come the comic book dollars! We’re buying that beach house!' Source: http://www.comicbookmovie.com/news/articles/2315.asp -------------------- Chuck Moore

Director Joss Whedon is talking up a storm about Wonder Woman Director Joss Whedon is talking up a storm about the project. He discussed it with MTV, where he talked about casting an unknown in lieu of a famous actress. "I completely agree with it," Whedon said. "That's not to say I would rule an actress out just because she's famous if she was right for the part. But I like the idea of an unknown because these are some tough booties to fill. It's going to be difficult to find somebody who's beautiful in that particular way, who's got the presence and the acting chops and the physicality. It's a really hard role, and people have an idea of her. I think [the script will] be done in a few months' time, and then I give it to the studio and they'll say, 'Boy, is it not done!' So, you know, it's a process. It should take some time, but I'm well into it, and I'm having the time of my life." Whedon also talked to CHUD, where he said "They came at me with 'Wonder Woman' at the same time they came at me with 'X-Men,' and they both had advantages, but 'X-Men' was all about the schedule and 'Wonder Woman' was all about not having a schedule.
