The new J.J. Abrams show debuts tonight with a two-hour premiere. Anyone checking it out?
Pilot - A task force comes together as a sniper starts targeting young victims in the opener of a dramatic series in which prisoners who mysteriously vanished decades ago from Alcatraz reappear in the present.

We watched it, and it was...ok I guess. I kinda expected more to be honest, but it was Monday night, there was nothing else on I even remotely wanted to watch, and it didn't put me to sleep at least. I guess the biggest issue I have is the huge gaping plot holes that no one seems even remotely willing to fill in as of yet. Now don't get me wrong, I'm fine with the suspense and all, but some of them kinda need to be addressed earlier rather than later, at least IMO. We've got it set to DVR so I'll hopefully be able to watch the whole season, depending on how long it lasts. We'll see.

Cary, what do you think now that we're a few episodes in?

Cary, what do you think now that we're a few episodes in? Well, I'd say it's still DVR worthy at this point, and that's saying more than it seems on the surface. DVR space is highly coveted around my nest! While I was home I got to see the pilot, the sniper episode, which was crazy good, the child molester episode, which was creepy and greasy to put it lightly, and bank robber episode, which made me want my hour back, but all in all I'd say thus far I'm digging the show enough to keep watching. All in all the jury's still out. -------------------- |

I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment.
I'm enjoying it, but I am worrying about it being formulaic. I hope they break that up a bit in coming weeks. -------------------- |

They keep throwing the little things at us and I think that's what keeping me the most interested. The doc that got shot was from the past, and so was the crazy saw bones guy they have doing lord knows what to the bodies back there. That intrigues me. The keys thing is also weird. Those are actually Alcatraz cellblock keys, but what purpose they serve in the story I have no idea as of yet. I like Hurley's character the most, and the chick doesn't annoy me enough to hate her but I still wish she was Starbuck.

Hahaha, I'm grooving on this show more and more very week. Allowing one of the guards to come back last week was well done and broke up the formula a lot. It was bitter sweet as he can't ever see his family again now. Whereas Doc Soto is cool, I am liking the female detective more and more and she's done the impossible in my opinion in making my wife become a fan. She likes the show BECAUSE of her. Go figure.

Yeah, the little things that you mentioned, Cary, are what keeps me too. And the part the girl's family obviously plays in all this is also very intriguing.
Ron, you're right, that did break it up a bit. -------------------- |

Okay, whether you like the show or not, just needed you all the know, Comic Related member, writer Andrew Salmon, who works as an extra in Vancouver Canada, got to play a San Francisco homicide detective in the two hour season one finale of ALCATRA airing tonight. In the story, someone his hurled out a hotel window to his death.
Later the principle characters arrive on the crime scene. As they are talking there's Andrew in the background talking with a nurse, wearing a trenchcoat and acting as a detective. Guy does get some lucky gigs. Ron |

From what I've read, it's on the bubble, and ratings have taken a dive since the return of The Voice. Many are predicting it to be cancelled sadly.

(Some shows get a quicker release date once it's on DVD). Sadly, I have a bunch of episodes recorded, but never got to watch it. So blame me for the cancellation if it happens -------------------- Tipping Sacred Cows since 2004 at http://www.blogthispal.com

Well, again no official word just yet. And I will give them credit for answering lots of puzzles, still, per a good Abrams show, answers only led to more questions. Was the "stuff" added to the convicts blood put their to be able to track them?

Not unexpected, but leaving me disappointed, Alcatraz was cancelled and won't return for another season.
