It's about time we had a thread us wrestling fans can call our own.

Last night was the 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw, which debuted in January 1993.

Some were disappointed, some were satisfied. I'm of the latter group. I wasn't expecting it to be the best episode ever, I was expecting nostalgia and some fun parts, and it did not disappoint in that regard.

The show opened up with Degeneration X, which was just HHH and HBK, but it got better from there. HBK said there was something missing, and after a bit of back and forth HHH said "didn't there used to be MORE of us?" And I kind of marked out a bit over that, because it's been many years since we've seen all of DX.

So out come the New Age Outlaws and X-Pac (first time I believe those three have been in with Shawn Michaels, btw). That was a pretty cool way to start things off.

We also had a bunch of legends cameos, a great bit with the APA, Rock, Brock Lesnar and the Brothers of Destruction.

It was like reliving the mid 90s all over again.

As for the ending, the main event between Cena and Punk... I actually liked the way that went. Technically Cena won, but he's still the first person to cash in the Money in the Bank contract and not win the title. It, along with the segment earlier in the night, set up Punk and Rock, which I would much rather see than another Rock/Cena match (though I honestly think Wrestlemania next year will see Cena/Rock for the title).

There are some that hated the heel turn for Punk, but honestly it made sense. And yes, some will still cheer him, so what? There were always people cheering Rock and Stone Cold, and even the NWO and Orton when they were heel. Even HHH got some love as a heel. It doesn't matter. The fact is if they're building a program between Rock and Punk, Punk has to be the heel even though both are kind of anti-heroes. So I was fine with it.

Fun show all in all.

As I've mentioned in my own forums, I've been posting regularly in my wrestling blog: http://kfabe.blogspot.com

Wrestling, overall, is kind of stale right now, but there are some bright spots. Kane and Daniel Bryan together is hilarious, and all the stuff with Doctor Shelby has been priceless.

The WWE is trying to develop a tag team division, and they have a few breakout stars in general with Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and a few others.

TNA has the whole Aces & Eights thing going on, which is the subject of my latest blog post. It's been interesting despite TNA's poor acting and writing. They still put on some amazing matches too.

Not the greatest time to be a wrestling fan, but we are seeing a transition from the old guard to the new and some of these guys are rising to the challenge. That spells good things for the future of the business.
