One important fact to remember. Muscle weighs more than fat. So even if you lose some fat, you may be gaining muscle in its place. If you keep at it, eventually the muscles will start to show as your body tones up biggrin.gif

Thanks Lak! Yeah that's what I'm hoping is happening here. I'm going to give it another week or 2 doing exactly what I'm doing now and see what happens. I'm walking a couple miles a night this week, it perfectly times out to one episode of the gilmore girls, lol So yeah a bit of entertainment while I'm getting in the much needed activity. My brother told me the same thing about muscle weight... so I'm going to believe you guys. happy.gif Makes me feel better anyway. ha

I've been doing really good since I got home from offshore. I rarely have problems offshore, it's coming home that's hard because I have so much better access to the wrong kinds of foods, and we eat out a lot. But this time both my wife and I are focused on losing weight and it's been a lot easier. We took Superbowl Sunday off, but beyond that we've been really good. For a pregnant woman she's craving veggies, which helps her out immensely. She's been to the doctor three times now and has lost weight every time! So anyway, ticking along here.

Alright, here goes my first Comic Related weight loss weekly update. As of last week when I finally received a scale to greatly help in my attempts to lose weight I weighed 292 lbs.

As of today I weigh in at 284 lbs. That's a loss of 8 lbs. Not bad for a first week. (I actually think I lost a little before I got the scale but I'll never really know)

Also....if it wasn't for my Super-Bowl party which consisted of the world's best vegetarian chili and some vanilla ice cream....who knows I might have lost more!

Anyway...on to next week!

Awesome Cary! I missed this one somehow. That is incredible that your wife is managing to loose weight while she's pregnant. Keep up the great work both of you. smile.gif

Ok I think you guys are going to get tired of seeing my ugly mug so much, but i just posted another video. lol This one is for a challenge I started up this week. Figured I'd share it with you guys if anyone wanted to try it out as well.
Here's the video, but I'll explain it here in writing so you don't have to watch the vid if you don't want to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdiEfcmXlHQ

Basically for the 21 day challenge you give yourself 3 goals. Goals that are distinct and can be measured. So here are my 3. 1. Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day 2. Walk 2 miles on the treadmill six nights a week. 3. No eating after midnight. Because I go to bed so late that one really only makes sense to me, lol For most people its no food after 9pm or something.

So anyway then you just keep track of it and try to pull it off for 21 days. So I'm going for it. The theory is that it takes 21 days to form a habit, so if you do all of these things they will stick with you over time. So my plan is to start a new 21 day challenge each time I finish one. Might take a few days off in between I'm not sure yet. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

I already do two of those three regularly. I never eat after 8:00 p.m and drink about four to five bottles of water a day....don't know how close to eight glasses that is.

I need to do some exercise...it's how to find the time, I have no room for exercise equipment in my house (I don't even have stairs)...and we've been buried under about 18 inches of snow for days now (does shoveling snow once a day for four days straight count?)...so it's hard to get out and walk....plus it's cold!

My wife and I were walking around the neighborhood (about eight blocks)every evening before it got cold....and taking one of the three dogs with us when we did (they need some freakin' exercise too!)....haven't done anything like that lately.

Hey Bill, I learned a cool thing last night about how to figure out how much water to drink. You take your weight and cut it in half. What your left with is how many ounces of water you should drink a day. What I found out is I'm not drinking enough. bleah So I've had to upgrade the size of the glass I'm using. lol

Oh and the snow shoveling thing totally counts as exercise. smile.gif

Ok... new video is up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oESbfLgF_4

I gained 3.8 pounds. Ugh! I'm thinking it must be the walking, but who knows. I'm just going to stick with it and make sure I count the points for everything that I eat this week. Just to be certain my calorie intake is right. I managed to walk the two miles every night this week. I didn't even take Sunday night off as I'd planned. So I'm liking the walking and plan to stick with it.

Appears I need to drink more water as well...and man I'm really struggling this week....caved in to a Valentine's Day Dinner and went over board and caved to the temptation of fast food a couple of times. And I was doing so good the first few weeks!

I'll post more details on this very frustrating week in a couple of days.

Hang in there Bill! Take it one day at a time and recognize that it's a marathon not a sprint. Once you start seeing real results it'll get easier, and you'll get even more motivated.

Last week at this time I weighed 284 lbs. This week I weigh 285lbs. That means I lost three pounds and gained four pounds.

Allow me to explain. For the last seven days it seems the forward progress that I started off so strongly with bogged down and I actually started to lose ground. I gained a pound weighing in at 285...I managed to lose a pound getting it back to 284 only to gain two pounds weighing in 286 to turn around and lose a pound now weighing 285.

So technically I guess to make a long story short I gained a pound this week.

It's been a less than perfect week. Some of my self control slipped and some bad habits reared their ugly head this week. After going a month without fast food...I caved....twice....as Papa John's and Taco Bell got the best of me on two separate occassions. Plus Saturday night I had an early Valentine's dinner with my wife which included two non-diet cherry colas and desert.

Next week I have to re-apply myself and concentrate on going forward once more.

I feel you brother, no doubt about it. I'm going to get ambitious starting this weekend as I'm not losing at the rate I really want to. I'm beginning the P90X program. If I survive it, I should come out the other side in crazy good shape. We'll see!

I actually lost 5 pounds over the past two weeks, but not due to trying to, mostly due to not being able to eat with this stupid toothache. Still made me feel good though. smile.gif

I've decided to try my own get fit goal. According to the BMI index I'm overweight at 190 lbs, which is absolutely ridiculous. According to the BMI I should weigh 162lbs. Not a chance. I actually want to get to 200, but a toned 200. So... I want to gain weight! But the real problem is smoking. So that will be my get fit goal. I'm not going to play the cold turkey card and make any naive claims that I'm going to quit outright even though I'd love that, but what I am going to do is make an effort to cut it down (waaaay down) and get in shape in the process.

Like everybody else, I'll use this forum to document my success and failures as they occur.

At present, I'm a pack a day which breaks down to about 1 cigarette every 45 min. I've put myself on a timer that allows me 1 every 1.5 hours. In theory, starting off, that should cut my consumption in half. That, combined with a mile walk/jog each day on my treadmill should start to show some decent progress right off the bat. That'll be enough of a goal for now.

Congrats to everybody who is sticking to their goals.
