Art by : Tommy Patterson.
Flats by the talented Lisa Moore.

Normally I flat my own work but I just started it a several hours ago, I wanted to add a few more effects and make some changes but ultimately I just don't have the time. Higher res copies will be uploaded to my deviantart page at a later time.

Note: My settings on the TV set I use are off and I realize how bad my piece looks, if anyone has the time to give me some feedback as to what could be off, I'd appreciate the help getting my settings fine-tuned to be more accurate. Thank you ahead of time.

Hey Tim good work on Red Sonja...I'm not a pro colorist but maybe it could use a little more lighting and shadow, other than that I'd twist your arm to color some of my work.

Thanks Casey, actually the Red Sonja piece was a rushed job. I may or may not go back and do some touch ups.

You have the skills and talent, Tim. Now work on making your colors pop more with light and darker shades. The one with the girl and lion, for example. And Christiana Blood. Pull those figures to the foreground more with a lighter hue treatment, etc. Want to see things happen for you, buddy!

Thanks Bill.

A lot of my problems are with the type of monitor I use.. which isn't a monitor at all but a television set.
So the brightness/color settings just aren't as accurate as they could be and in the end.. my work suffers as
a result both with my ability to see what I am doing and with converting it from RGB to CMYK.

I think I have the setting close to being as accurate as I can get them but won't be able to find out
for a few months.

I'll keep at it though. One thing is for sure, I am always learning something new.

Glad to know that. On a side note, I am thinking of experimenting with a new style. It will be a mix of the old traditional airbursh look and the modern "wet" look that is so popular these days.

Hey Tim, a couple things that might help you out with that. First, are you coloring with your proof colors turned on? This will allow you to color in RGB, but Photoshop will display what the colors will look like when converted to CMYK. This should help you identify what will work in print while still allowing you to work in RGB. And second, have you tried getting a color calibrator for your monitor? I use a Spyder 2 to calibrate my screen. The new version is kind of pricey, but you could probably find the Spyder 2 for around $100. I was noticing that a lot of my work was printing MUCH darker than I was expecting, but since calibrating my screen, they're coming out exactly the way I had intended.

First off thank you very much for the help Ross, it's appreciated.

I do color witth proof colors and gaumet warning turned on. Part of the problem is that most of the stuff I am coloring is for the web only with future intention of print, so I have to make it look good on the web, while making sure it can print.
I'd love to get a color calibrator but I simply can't afford it, much less new clothes or other necessities. I've been out of work for a long time now and haven't found work.

Well I am off to do more job searches.

All the best,

Tim
