Hey Guys... guess this is the right place for stuff like this. Since I don't think we have specific forums set up for the CR webcomics.

Anyway, I recorded my process of coloring and lettering this weeks New Comic Day. Thought it might interest some of you. Again it's just another walk through kind of thing... not really a tutorial. I'm thinking of doing some sort of tutorial, just have to figure out what I want to talk about. So if anyone has a request for a specific tutorial just let me know!

The music is just a couple songs I personally like, has nothing to do with the comic really. I thought about using the the mickey mouse club march or its a small world and then decided against it. For one I don't want to be responsible for getting it's a small world stuck in someone's head. ha ha

Thanks to all the guys on the NCD team for letting me put this up, and I can't say enough how happy I am to be a part of the team and working on such a fun project.

Ok, so here it is.

For someone with absolutely no Photoshop skills (besides the image resizing feature sleep.gif) it was AMAZING to watch. I seriously need to learn how to color lol.

Such a fantastic video Lisa. Thanks for sharing it with us. I wish I knew how to do one of my own, I've been wanting to
make a few myself... maybe next year.

Oh, its so easy. Just get this program... http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/ Cam Studio. It's free and it will let you record your desktop. Then I just pull the videos I make up in windows movie maker... because that's the only program I have for that sort of thing. I don't know how to edit video... as evidenced by this ncd clip, so I have to record everything all in one sitting. That way I don't have to try and combine video. So anyway you might want to give it a shot. smile.gif

Nice, thank you very much. Now I just need to find a way to add audio.. not music but actual audio from a mic.. which I don't own yet but will eventually.
I also listen to Zone 4 while working, well I listen to nothing but podcasts.

My daughter watched this just a half hour ago. She loved it. Thought it was amazing. She's already requested more.

Tim...would love to see one of these as you work on Killer Robots (hint hint)

By the way...that RaynMan podcast ain't too shabby...you know...for the next time you guys are...like...working and stuff.

Can't lie. Listen to Zone 4 all the time when I'm drawing or inking. I can't listen to anything when I write. Completly screws me all up.

The great thing about that program is that it lets you record audio. So once your get your microphone you should be good to go. I did that with a flatting tutorial last year... I sound like dork on that one... ha ha Next time I'll plan what I'm going to talk about. Plus my microphone was crap so the audio level is way off. Hence the reason I've stuck with just adding music since then.

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you come up with in the future. It is always fun to see the different processes people use for coloring.

RaynMan podcast I am listener #2 of RaynMan podcast, I listen to all of the comic related podcasts as well we Comic Geek Speak and Film Junk.
http://www.filmjunk.com/ I may give making a video a try, I have no idea how to do music, or how to condense it. I usually spend 8+ hours to color killer robots.. I really need to make a color guide or swatch pallet for it, when I have some free time that is.

Are you kidding I listened to the RaynMan podcast the day it came out. smile.gif I pretty much listen to all the shows the day they come up on the site. I'm also always working when I listen to podcasts... this week I think I was flatting some stuff when I listened to your show. I'm enjoying it a lot. I really like the way you guys split up your segments. It has a totally different feel from the other shows on CR. I'm loving the variety of the podcasts lately.

I agree with you about the writing thing... I can't have music on or anything or I get totally distracted.

I color in CMYK, for killer robots.. I usually take the previous few strips and use the eyedropper to match the scenes up.
Over the last year, my files have become... well less and less organized. Sometime in the new year I'll have to set some time
aside to re-organize my brushes, swatch pallets and settings.

Oh and for a Mic. Save up for a condenser mic. As an example. http://www.amazon.com/Samson-CO1U-USB-Cond...e/dp/B000AP1RE8

I do the same thing as far as using the eye dropper goes. I don't really have any swatches set up... never really took the time to learn how to organize those.

Thanks for the info on the mic!

Well, I went and spent the $35 of $50 that remain on the last credit card that had credit to get myself a Christmas gift (I also had previously purchased my Girlfriend something as well.) What did I get? A new Mic /head set. It states on the package that it's comfortable, but it isn't.

Anyway What I am getting at is that the audio works fine now, aside that I sound horrible.. no idea I sounded that bad. The problem I have with cam studio is there is no picture and a slightly annoying clicking sound when I try to play back a recording. Any idea what may be causing that Lisa?

Hmmm.... I have no idea. What version do you have? I'm using version 2, I don't even know what is goes up to. So when your recording no error messages come up or anything?

I had trouble once where I recorded a really long video without stopping, then tried to save it. It couldn't keep up and the file corrupted and wouldn't play back. So now I record things in shorter segments of no more than an hour. Is it not even playing back when your just trying to record a short video?

For me when I save a video it takes a few minutes and then a movie viewer will pop up where you can play back your video right there. Does that come up for you?

Oh and I know what you mean about headphones, I had a ridiculously uncomfortable pair that mercifully broke a few weeks ago. I wasn't going to get rid of them while they still worked and I'd spent 30 bucks on them, lol So now I have a very cheap $15 pair, but they are quite comfortable.

I had 2.0, but decided to try the 2.5 beta instead. I receive no error messages, nothing comes up saying that there is an error.
However when I stop the recording it will pop up a movie player, this is when the crackling sound starts during the entire duration
but there is no video just audio. I can't return the headphones now that they are opened, so at the very least I can uncomfortably
listen to stuff while I color. That is until they either break or I get used to them.

Here's a new video for New Comic Day #23.

This is most likely my last video for a couple months. I'm going to work at making my videos into tutorials rather than just these watch me work things, lol So I'm going to try and figure out how to edit video better and will actually start talking and explaining the process on things.

For this one I tried to pick music that fit the strip a bit... so some party/drinkin' songs. he he It all ended up being country music, can't help it that's mostly what I have on my computer to pick from. smile.gif I should probably take Tim's lead and start using royalty free music for these things... oh well for now it works.
