Anybody seen this? I caught it last night. I had never heard of it, which was a little surprising given the all-star cast (John C. Reilly, Willem DaFoe, Salma Hayek, Orlando Jones...).

It's about these two kids, one perfect, the other not so much who are best friends. The bad kid is obsessed with vampires, but the good kid ends up becoming a half vampire, which sets off this war with the two kids at the center of it.

It was decent. Definitely not great or epic feeling as it should be, but it was okay. The freaks in the Cirque were more disgusting than entertaining, and the acting of the kids, and the plot itself was a bit weak. Still, I enjoyed it for what it was. There have certainly been worse book adaptations (apparently this is based on a novel series).

Yeah, I actually saw this a few months back and enjoyed it for what it is. I did enjoy that the vampires didn't sparkle. smile.gif

With all do respect to everyone else who was involved in the making of this film,I can not stand John C. Reilly, so I passed on the film.

Aww man! I love that dude. He's actually a really good character actor, he's just kinda goofy in a lot of the stuff he plays.

I did like him in certain roles.. I guess it depends on who he's teamed up with that says my decision.

Well, let me put it this way, this is not like him being with Will Ferrel in the slightest. He's more serious in this role than I recall ever seeing him. He just happens to do mostly comedy. While this is a lighthearted vampire flick, it's not the over the top dumb humor he's known for.

Thanks Brant, and Cary! I am now convinced to give it a try (when I can). I really didn't care for him being teamed up with Will Ferrel, but if he is more serious in this, then I'd be willing to give it a viewing.

Oh yeah he totally plays it straight. When you start the movie it takes you a while because you keep thinking he's gonna slip into zany, but he doesn't. Poor dude will probably always be lumped into Ricky Bobby comparisons. lol Shake and Bake!

I'm still bankrupted, but when I get back on my feet and do Netflix again, I will definitely add this to my netflix queue, thanks for the 411 on it.

I loved John C. Reilly in Boogie Nights he was also good in Chicago.

I actually rented this movie and thought it was pretty good.

lol no clue. I think McBride's freakin hilarious too...and they both work with Will Farrel...so maybe that's it.

Heard about this film. Flopped bigtime, was meant to be part of a series, but that never came about. The writer is Irish (Darren Shan, the 'Shan' being a homage to his grandfather, who people used to call Shan) but I think he was dissappointed with it.

There was another Irish writer who wrote a book called Skullduggery Pleasant about a skeletal detective. The guy sold the rights to the book, but since it has languished in development hell for years and years, he has said he is trying to get it back from the film producers, as their option runs out in a couple of years.
