*haha* Brian!

Okay, here's my studio in 360 degrees, thanks to a handy iPhone app named "Pano". Lots of fun, and it shows where I do my stuff. Taken while spinning in my drawing chair.

Fan of Chris Stevens I see. wink.gif

"SpiderManPonyNerfSaberPewPew" had its origins in a conversation I had on another forum I participate in. I was explaining that, though I work for Hasbro's Star Wars and Nerf lines, I'd work on My Little Pony (also owned by Hasbro) if they asked me to--I just love to draw.

Of course, I was challenged to draw Spider-Man riding My Little Pony, wielding a lightsaber and a NERF gun--and make it look cool.

I am totally gonna paint this.

Haven't decided on the Pony's color scheme yet, and many of the scribbles are placeholders for digital painting effects I want to try. It's going to be the sparkliest, pinkest, rainbow-est thing I've ever done.

Then I'm going to e-mail it to Hasbro.

I hope I don't get fired.

Just in time for Halloween.

Really cool. Wonder if one could sell it as a tattoo? The Bowser standing in front of a marijuan leaf tattoo is still very popular. And that is Bowser from Mario, not Art Bowsher. smile.gif

Just avoiding confusion.

I won't make a dime off my first book. What I get out of the experience is one hundred fold of any monetary reward. I do understand the need to put food on the table and a roof over ones head. I expect to get better with each endeavor, show what creativity I may have. I have in my lifetime found that I can exceed my own and others limited expectations. I may not set the goals real high , but, I strive to meet them when possible.
I love the spidey-pony thing, it is ridiculous!!!! Hialrious!!! and a great peice of work (Pun intended). I put this in the wrong thread and realizzed it too late!!!!!

Taking a new approach to my figure drawing. I'm still fighting what Loomis calls "fundamental construction", meaning that I'm glossing over important but complex anatomy issues in my work. Now, stylistically, I can hide those issues to some degree, but I'm not pursuing art to hide from the hard things. Time to start from scratch with my anatomy, and think like a scientist as well as an artist. How does this wonderful machine actually work?

Tomorrow is Day One of really looking at these fundamentals.

Loomis says you can't create dynamic or interesting art if you're always fighting construction. He's right. Time to learn.

Just a note.

Titan Books is FINALLY reprinting unedited Loomis books.

I realize there are PDF's and stolen copies floating around online; but please people - show Titan your support and pick these wonderful books up.

We should start a discussion topic for Figure Drawing for All It's Worth.

First time on this thread so I'm responding about the original pic which I love! Great composition and colors!! I give you credit for diving into the art with just 5 years until your pension as I'm currently in law enforcement and have to admit that it slows down my self-publishing productivity. As a writer who only dabbles in art though, there's less oportunities out there so my career keeps the rent money coming in, lol. I saw the My Little Spidey pic as well and that's great also. Perfect Spidey physique!

To enhance my digital painting, I've signed up for a 9-week watercolor painting course at the fantastic Sharon Art Studio here in the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

This is the studio my wife uses for her masterful pottery work (she's amazing), so I know the class will be legit.

Learning the traditional painting process can only help my digital painting efforts--at least that's my hope. It can't hurt, right?

Like so many things, I'm gonna fling myself into this watercolor thing 100%, so prepare yourself for scans of my best attempts at watercolor over the next several weeks.

Thanks, Dan!

Yeah, leaving the guaranteed government job for the unknown chance at living my dreams was NOT an easy one, but it was the best one. I have to find out just how far I can go with this art thing, or I'll never forgive myself.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, buddy--and STAY SAFE, dammit. Remember, there's no such thing as a "routine" call or "routine" traffic stop. Those terms should be struck from the lips of any LEO.

!!

Fred

Have not worked with water colours much, but have worked with acrylics and oils, my preference being the oils. They rock hard. Plus you can get realistic flesh tones rather easily with oils, compared to the time it takes to do the same thing with acrylics.

But watercolours have the added advantage of being quick drying. Outside of natural drying, there is the added benefit of just grabbing a hairdryer. Seriously, that is all it takes.

But maybe I am a glutton for punishment, since I seem to scrape towards the old oils.

Good stuff. My opinion is that if you are drawing at least 3 pages a week, paid or unpaid, you'll
do just fine. With this skill level production is the only concern with publishers. And attitude.

Kav, I think you may have responded to the wrong thread. ;-) If you meant to put this somewhere else--no biggie. It appears as a bit of a non sequitur--maybe you're responding to something much older in the conversation?

Feeling nostalgic so I've been listening to Maiden all day in the studio. I've never drawn Eddie strangely enough, and I wanted to see if I could get a handle on the character. Not bad, I think.

I love the depth in his soulless metal eyes. We've been on an older metal kick at the shop I work at as well. Must be something in the atmosphere.

UP THE IRONS!

His face looks a little fuller than Eddie normally looks; but still fun.

At some point I want to do a Kyonyuu Dragon fan piece inspired be the Live After Death poster.

Shame America lost it's taste for power metal. No worries, Europe keeps me in a good supply. biggrin.gif

Totally intentional, Greg! I've always thought that Eddie's eye sockets and some of his features were a little too cartoony, and I wanted to see what a tiny little re-design tweak, bringing him in line with where anatomy really is, might work.

What I like is that it's obviously Eddie, but without the distortions. A fun experiment!
