Man, this is a good one! I'm listening to the tale end of this episode, which is part one of a 2-parter, and man, is it thought-provoking. Some great commentary on the evolution of comics and the state of the industry and what's wrong with it by three very knowledgeable individuals on the topic.

You must listen to this one, it is that good. Bill and Chuck are great, but honestly, I love hearing Ron talk. Good, good stuff.

Thanks a million, Brant. It was a real blast to do with Chuck and Bill. As Chuck pointed out, the three of us came to comics by various routes, but are united in our love for the medium and want to see it continue for another couple hundred years.

I want to thank you for your comments as well, Brant. I'm very happy you enjoyed it as much as you have so far and hopefully you enjoy the second half just as much if not more.

I had a great time recording this conversation with Chuck and Ron and I also can listen to Ron talk for hours (which is why I got quiet a couple of times. I would get lost in his conversation and have to remind myself, hey dummy, you're supposed to be a part of this too!)

The only thing that could have made this discussion better would have been if the three of us were at a table at Giovanni's and having this talk over a slice of two of their incredible pizza!

I would like to thank Ron and Bill here for the incredibly nice things they both said about my work during the podcast. They both gave me a head's up that I was going to be mentioned, but when I heard what was actually said, I nearly fell out of my chair. It made my day...and probably my whole week. Thank you both!

listened to part 2 tonight and I must say that the one thing that sticks out in my mind is the idea that the young crowd of comic creators, fans or colllectors have no idea who the older gen of creators are, saddly it is the truth for the most part but I have something to add to that, I know Bill had said that unless they are the child of a older fan they wouldn't or what not, but I can speak from my own experience neither of my parents were comics fans and the reason I got into comic like I did is a fun story when i was younger I had 1 dollar a month that I could spend on what ever I wanted too, that's all my parents gave me for an allowance may not seem like alot but it had 2 things that it gave me 1. A better understanding of managing money and 2 . A love of comics because at that point the only thing that interested me that I could buy for a dollar was comics, anyways as I became a bigger fan and a collector over time my mom and dad use to look in the bargin finder (their were no comic shops in my area and infact never step foot into on until I was 17 in Chicago) and get old back issues for me for my birthday, christmas, ect. so I developed a love of the older books and creators that I would see in those books.

anyways what i'm driving at is fast forward to now and I go to the cons as a creator/publisher myself and I am more interested in meeting & talking to the older creators then I am the younger ones of the reasons being is just to benefit from their knowledge and to say thank you because without them I wouldn't be where I am today.

I consider myself lucky to have met and gotten to know creators like

Gene Colan, Will Eisner, Martin Nodell, Alex Toth, Jack Adler, Joe Kubert, Stan Lee, ect.

now funny thing Ron's story of how he met Stan reminded me of when I met him in San Diego a few years back, I met him in the crowded lobby at the san diego comic con, anyways he was strolling through the lobby and save for a couple people no one knew who he was, anyways I walked up to him said hello introduced myself and ended up having a good 30 min. chat with him in the lobby of the con.

As we near 100 podcasts, I'd have to say that I definitely count #93 and #94 in the top five of all of them. And that is due solely to the caliber and intelligence of the three participants.

That is quite a compliment, John. I thank you and I'm sure Ron and Chuck thank you as well.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Yo John and Sean, thanks for the kind words. Sean, loved your own Stan Lee story. One of the reasons I love the guy himself is just how approachable he has always remained. Says a lot about him as a man, always having time for the fans. A lesson all creators should take to heart. John, this is a good time for me to return the compliment as I've loved your 10 minutes CR recaps. It's easy to see you are having fun doing them and I appreciate you succinct reporting. Keep em coming, please.

I certainly will. My original reason for doing them was to take some work off the plate of our fearless leader. But despite the fact that I truly dislike the sound of my own voice (Elmer Fudd as podcaster), I am enjoying doing them and plan to do more besides my weekly 10-spot in the future.

I think we all have this in-built filter when it comes to hearing our own voices realistically. Then when we do get them recorded and played back, all of us are surprised. Strange, but true.

Just finished #93 (and now listening to #94), and there's some *really* good grist for the mill.

I'm really thankful that my employers allow me to listen to podcasts while working - this is some great stuff!

Hi Gordon,
As you know, there's really nothing new in the topics the three of us kicked around. Oh, Bill, Chuck or myself, might have thrown in a few facts some folks weren't aware of, but all in all these are things that have affected the evolution of comics and it was really a ball hashing them out like that. Am really glad you and many others enjoyed our ramblings.
