So I figured I would go ahead post a few examples of my coloring here. It will give me a place to post stuff in the future as well. So basically I wanna be one of the cool kids with their own thread
So these are just a few of my personal favorite things I've done. ![]() First this might be my current favorite thing I've done. It started out as a little personal challenge to myself to color 5 practice pieces in a week. It was my first and best result of that week. Art for this one by Randy Green, I love his art he does some amazing stuff. ![]() As I think I've already mentioned previously somewhere most of the work I do is flatting for other colorists. This is one page I flatted for another colorist that I decided to have a go at trying myself. I love this art! I've never really read the book but I could work with these pages all day every day and be happy ![]() This one was fun! Another practice piece. Art by: http://kidnotorious.deviantart.com/ Now for a couple more recent things. ![]() A promo I colored for the Zuda comic Spy6Teen. I really like how it turned out. Art by: DJ Keawekane Now finally a character concept for Jason Berek-Lewis. He has posted this on his website already so I don't think he'll mind if I post it here. This is Malinki from his comic Tiki's Giant. Art for this one by the amazing Andrew Law. You can find out more about this project on Jason's site: http://dragonfuze.wordpress.com/ -------------------- |

Something new.. had a bit of free time this evening and wanted to get a little practice in. Tried a bit of a different style with this one. I was able to do throw the digi inks on this one and then colored it.

OOooooo pretty <3 ^^ I like the joker picture <3 Thats my favorite! Thanks, yeah the joker turned out pretty cool I think. The way the background turned out on that one was totally an accident and might be my favorite part of that picture, lol Not that you asked or anything, just an interesting tid-bit I thought I'd throw out there. -------------------- |

Figured I'd mention here for anyone who is interested that I've updated my website. I decided to change my site over to a wordpress blog. So you can check it out here: http://hueville.wordpress.com Eventually my domain hueville.net will point here, the name servers are currently switching over so I think it should work tomorrow. Kind of empty at the moment, only a couple posts and the stuff that was up on my old site.
I'm going to start posting updates on my coloring work there and do some general blogging. Basically replacing my myspace blog, so I'll be posting there with all of my new stuff. I'm likely to be a bit boring sometimes, but I'll be posting none the less, lol -------------------- |

Well yesterday I wrapped up the colors on a zuda entry I've been working on. The writer posted up one of the pages on his blog if anyone wants to check it out. Here it is: http://shannoncronin.com/blog/revenge-of-t...-color-preview/
My first horror-ish coloring gig, I say ish because its kind of a funny old school horror. It isn't just straight up gore or anything like that. It was quite fun to work on. I never would have imagined I would have enjoyed it so much. lol Hopefully it will be in the October competition. -------------------- |

Lisa,
Very nice colors. If there is still time to make changes, I might suggest reworking some of the areas where the flashlight is affecting the color on the character and the background. A flashlight is a directional light, which means it gives off very little ambient light. So basically everything behind the shield would still be in darkness. In panels 1,3 and 4, you have a lot of ambient light being cast onto your character behind the shield that really shouldn't be there. I think these panels would be a lot more effective if you kept his colors dark and just rendered the light from the flashlight. A soft glow over the lineart will really drive the effect home. In panel 5, I got a bit confused because of the way you applied your gradient. The sky in the background is catching light from the flashlight. That's one powerful beam. A couple other things you may try, would be to darken the backgrounds in all of your panels. They still read at a nighttime scene, but I think it would set a darker mood. Also, try lighting the inside of his trailer with a yellow (as if from a lamp on the inside). I think this would make for a more interesting panel to look at and would naturally set up your secondary lightsource rather than having what looks to be some bright moonlight being cast down. All in all, this is a pretty solid page. Keep up the good work! -------------------- Ross Hughes

I really appreciate you taking the time to check out the page and give me such great feedback and tips. I think it is to late to make changes though, since he has already lettered and submitted everything to zuda. I see what you mean about the flashlight, I guess I didn't give much thought to how a flashlight's beam would actually look. I just thought it looked cool with the glows I used, lighting in general is absolutely something I need to work on in my coloring. About adding light inside the trailer that one wouldn't work because the power went out, which is the reason he is outside messing with the generator and the reason he looks so grumpy, lol -------------------- |

Btw, just thought I'd mention that I wish I had even a small bit of the drawing ability you seem to have. So obviously some envy going on from my end as well, you've got some wonderful work! -------------------- |

A couple new things to show.
Also, just thought I'd mention that I've started my youtube channel back up. Its where I host a flatting tutorial I made a while ago and I'm now going to start posting new things. I already have a couple videos showing the process on the dynagirl piece pictured here. Anyway you can check thouse out here if you'd like: http://www.youtube.com/user/safarisunset83 Now for the colors: Pencils and Inks by Harold Edge on both of these. ![]() This was the first thing I colored by Harold. His work is amazingly fun to color. I really like how this one came out! ![]() -------------------- |

So something new from me today. I should have been working this afternoon but decided to take a bit of a break and color something that I've been meaning to get to for ages. It's a Heath Ledger's Joker by artist Shawn Van Briesen. While I was at it I decided to make this my newest video so I recorded my coloring process. I used some wacky old music, lol So that might make you all laugh. It is in fact from a CD I own and listen to frequently. Yes, yes I have weird taste in music. ha ha
So here are both of those things... the final picture has a few minor tweaks that the video doesn't cover. I can just never seem to leave things alone, lol ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEHin7waq5M -------------------- |
