Here's my prediction on the matter. With this issue there are 12 more issues until #600. So, whatever title they replace this with, Three or whatever it's called, will last 11 issues before changing over for the all-important 600th issue when the title and the team turn back to normal. So, one year is my prediction. It's a gimmick, folks.

Gimmick. But my gimmick money is on Johnny. pretty sure you're right on money as there's a spidey tie in money and last I checked, Johnny is basically one of spidey's closest friends. -------------------- |

Who could they possibly kill now? -------------------- You can Email me or visit my blog, Desultory Views, which I do update when I get the chance.

Been said already. This is a very obvious gimmick. I think comic readers are sick of this sort of thing.
But my death of Superman comic collectors edition variant cover is gonna be worth somethin, I tell ya! -------------------- |

Its sad that the only way to try to boost sales is to start killing the main characters of a book only for them to come back later in year.

I just don't get it. Personally, I've not been a fan of Hickman's run. Though to be fair, while I love the concept and characters of the FF, I've never been able to get into the book. But this doesn't entice me to, it pushes me away. Sigh.

Don't buy into the hype. Hickman's run is boring, dry, and uneventful. I frequent five different local comic shops....none of which even carry the Fantastic Four...because it just doesn't sell. Even a cheap marketing gimmick like promising to kill off a member of the FF and one of the first characters created by Marvel comics (for at least six months) hasn't helped the book in my area, matter of fact it's worked the opposite way....makes people want to avoid the book even more.

I still haven't decided on the Hickman run yet. I'm a longtime readers, with a complete collection going back to issue #200, and then all the Essential collections for the earlier issues. I like many of Hickman's concepts, if not their executions. But none are as original as the critics say. They've all been done within the pages of the Fantastic Four itself already.
The curing of Ben Grimm has been treated in and out side the comic like it's never happened before, despite the fact there have been years where he's either had the ability to switch or was actually stuck human. Then killing one of the FF? The death of Reed was the set-piece of the DeFalco + Ryan run. And the death of Ben was a significant part of the Waid run. The only way this could be something new is if they kill Sue or Johnny. But, still, it won't be all that new, and we all know for a fact it won't last long since there are talks of a new film. Hidden cities? Check. Reed talking with other-dimensional versions for advice? Check. Future versions of their kids meddling in current affairs? Check. It's all been done before. If they stopped hyping it I could probably relax and just enjoy it. And Hickman's SHIELD... don't get me started on that. Great concepts poorly done. -------------------- Not the droid you are looking for.

It's Marvel.. of course it's a gimmick. Part of me wants to say that it may end up being Sue or Reed.... Johnny seems like to good of a choice if you know what I mean, and Marvel usually does the opposite of what makes sense.
I haven't read or enjoyed Fantastic Four for two decades. I don't see it getting good again for a long time. |
