Sketch magazine gives us artists a great shot at showing off are talents! I enjoy the contests that are written by sketch magazine editor Bill. On the other sites(not mentioning any names) the contests are polled. Here you have pro judges from the biz that are selecting the winners. With the main prize being spotlighted in sketch magazine. The other prizes (in my opinion) on the other sites fail to compare. I think sketch magazine has truely the best sketch contest going today. The only suggestion I might add would be allowing the winner to sketch the cover of an issue! :wink.gif:

I think its an excellent idea, doing a variant cover, is very interesting.

Wizard used to do that for special issues and they paid the winner as a real pro. it can be a very important step when your are still an aspiring artist.

I stopped my subscription to wizard because they stopped the art contests all together! I think It would really get alot of entries if the winner got the cover!!!
It sure would help us artists to get are art shown!

Maybe contest winners could win a prize like a How To book or a BlueLine Pro art kit.

Even though I can't illustrate that well, and my schedule is
always getting in the way... I would have to agree. These
are the best contests I have seen in years.

An alternate cover would be neat indeed.

I think maybe a professional critique would be really cool.

A good in-depth one.

You know, when I used to buy Airbrush Action magazine monthly, there was a section called "Shirt du Jour", which would have a professional critique of reader's airbrushed shirts. Unfortunately, Ken Lind, who regularly did the column, would wind up having to criticize his own work because people weren't submitting regularly. But I think there's plenty to critique, even if we pull in some of the artists who have submitted on the boards that simply show potential but need polish.

WOW! Do the Sketch magazine COVER?!??!?!

SWEET IDEA!

Bill, even if not contest related - would it be ok to submit cover ideas for you to use whenever? I was thinking that (for example) the december issue you will probably go with a Christmas-y cover.

Basically leave it up to us to use a little foresight and think about (and make) covers for upcoming issues. You can use or not as you see fit.

Heck - I'd do a cover for FREE - but than again I'm a 'no-name' artist dying for a break. ;-)

(Sorry to all you professional guys who are trying to pay the bills - but we all start out doing work for darn near free or cheap for a break right?)

Lastly -

No matter what - only feature art from the PROs or your subscribers (who are good enough).
