Come on, Bill, the Black Spiderman stuff on the net is the biggest bunch of PR BS out there. There's no way the parent movie company shelling out millions of dollars on a superhero reboot is going to switch the race of the lead character. And I really was bothered by your pussyfooting around the subject, apologizing ever two minutes wanting to make sure people didn't take you for a racist.
My God, Bill stop being so damn PC. Don't you have any real African American friends at all? If they are true comic book fans, they don't want to see this anymore than they would want to see Tom Cruise playing the Black Panther or Chris Evans being Luke Cage.
Am I the only one who remembers the movie version of THE WILD WILD WEST. Biggest turkey Hollywood ever laid. Trust, me, Bill, those studio types haven't forgotten that bomb.
There isn't going to be any Black Spiderman movie.
Although I found it ironic your next podcast segment was devoted to Marvel's What If series. Now, if Hollywood could pull off a WHAT IF movie, then I'd be all over a WHAT IF SPIDERMAN WAS AFRICAN AMERICAN movie. Under that title, all of us would line up outside the theaters.
My two cents.
Ron

Great comments, Ron!

Yes I have SEVERAL REAL African/American friends who also happen to be die hard comic fans and these guys listen to the podcast all the time....I can't wait to see how they feel about the topic.

I remember a similar debate with another friend when there was a rumor that Robin was going to be in Batman Returns and that a black actor was going to be cast in the role....my friend did take my comments the wrong way when I said it was against it.

At any rate, thanks for listening to the show and I hope you enjoyed it....and thanks for the comments!

The actor who was cast to play Robin in BATMAN RETURNS was Marlon Wayans. Even though that didn't happen, we still got a cool action figure at that time, and the design of his costume was used for Tim Drake's outfit in the comics. Sort of interesting to think what might have been.

Though respectively Ron and Bill, Donald Glover (of the hit NBC sitcom the community) would be an awesome Peter Parker.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....................

No.

I think you have lost your ever lovin' mind. Did you forget who you are talking to? I'm O.G (Original Geek) all the way. That's the same to me as making Wonder Woman a male cross dresser....there's just not a need for it.

I prefer Hollywood at least make a half ass attempt to stay true to the original material....I know....like that's really going to happen.

I am full behind Peter being a white guy because that's how he always has been in the comics and in every single media adaption ever.

But if he was suddenly another race then I'd say I could only see Donald Glover.

It's me being devils advocate.

Though I think Don should be in a marvel movie...maybe Alex in the Runaways.

The joke of this silliness is some people want to accept it for real. A classic Steve Martin joke heard years ago completely shows the absurdity of such
things. He was being interviewed and at the end of the session the reported asked what his next movie project was going to be and Martin, with a straight face replied, "I'm going to do the Michael Jordan story. I'm playing Michael."
I rest my case.

I did not mind that change at all....especially seeing how no mention of Fury as a Sergeant in WWII was ever brought up, and there is a black version of the character in comics....although not comics I read.

Also did not mind the big screen versions on Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin or Alicia Masters...this is a tricky subject after all. Why are some changes alright and others not?

I'm beside myself, literally....... (Hello me, meet the real me. And my misfit way of life)

Granted, some seem to just work out okay. But again, the arguments pro or con seem to be all one sided, i.e. all about what would happen if an African American star played a Caucasian comic book hero. For me to have this be a viable discussion, I'd want to know what everyone thought of a Causasian
like Ryan Reynolds playing Black Panther?
There ARE African American super heroes. Would you want to see whites playing them?
And as for the whole Black Spidey....if that's what the studio wants, a teenage African American super hero, then why not make Static Shock??
