As Twilight Star quickly approaches the 2nd anniversary of the studio, a rocky second year is almost at a close. But in despite of a few production snags we had a great year, better than the first year which was in itself pretty damn impressive!

Don't look now but it's rapid fire Twilight Star update time! A LOT of great things have been happening as year two for the never sleeping creative minds of The 'Field winds down and the start of year three of Twilight Star is just around the corner!

Let's talk about this for just a minute.

The Stan Lee/MTV writer's nomination. Polls are of course closed now and I want to thank everybody who took the time to vote for me. With a little luck maybe I can make the top five and after that....why stop there.

This nomination is HUGE for Twilight Star and just making the top 20 writers in the nation list has already had a positive effect on the studio. But what most people don't know is this....

They have already narrowed down the top five artists in the nation and are keeping those names under wrap. Fellow Twilight Star artist Stacy Gaston has also entered this Seeker's creative team contest and IF he's in that top five...LOOK OUT!!!!

Twilight Star will be kicking down your door! ESPECIALLY if we both make the top five.

Stacy and I have known each since 1992 and have worked together in Dragonsound Studios and on Zonetrooper Megazine...but the two of us have never actually worked on a creative project together. As a writer and an artist...although there is finally a project of that nature in the works and coming up fast (see the Pandemonium Spotlight update)

WHAT IF....it takes a nation wide contest to get two guys from the same studio...in the exact same town....two guys that have known each other for almost 20 years on the same book as writer and artist.

Wouldn't that be something else?

You never know.
Hell Yeah!

Hats off to CHAD STROHL who took an already incredible cover by Rob Davis and Blake Wilke and adding just enough to distinguish a difference from the Twilight Star edition of the book seen in the post above and the Red Bud edition of the book....seen here.

Twilight Star does have a tendency to print "darker" comic material than Red Bud (but books like Daughter of Dracula and Brother Bones both from Red Bud and both books involving the creative talent of Ron Fortier and Rob Davis...I think Rob was just an editor on Brother Bones....but hey sometimes I'm just an editor and to me that still counts.....these books do get a little dark...and boy are they good! Go out and find a copy)

I think the Twilight Star "mood" was captured perfectly with this cover...and he actually did four great covers! I had to choose just one!!! One of the most difficult decisions I had to make since the studio got up off the ground!

This version of the book will only in the greater Ohio area starting October 15th...the day of Star Con 2011. The other version is already available on Indyplanet. Besides the cover the books are very much the same (slight formatting difference to the back up story called "Dirt" which was my contribution to this issue and the back inside cover runs a different ad....we at Twilight Star dedicate the back inside cover of every one of our books to Gem City Comic Con and our good friend Jesse Noble!)

The Red Bud version of the book is printed by Ka-Blam while the Twilight Star version is printed by Rink Comic Media

Twilight Star uses Rink EXCLUSIVELY for all our books and man are the GREAT!!!!!! LOve this guys. One of the best thnings that has happened to us, no joke! Perfect printing company for us. Thank God we set up right nest to Terry Huddleston ( a great and talented artist, terrific guy and a kick ass rep. of Rink Printing). He overheard a conversation that a few of us were having with the printer we were using at the time and....next thing we knew we were business....big time!

If you print your own books you need to check them out. The staff there (Terry, Terri, and Connie) is just AMAZING and the quality of their books.....HELL YEAH!!!!!!

And if you really want the Twilight Star version of Price For The Asking #2 -Moving Targets and you do not live in the Ohio area...just let me know....we can work something I'm sure.

And don't forget Price For The Asking #1 -Yesterday's Burning....I write the main story in that one with great art by the talented team of Brian Latimer, Chris Hoskins, and Tim Hagans and as always top notch lettering by Brant Fowler. Ron Fortier has TWO incredible back up stories in this one.

Once again the Twilight Star version is selling VERY WELL in the Ohio area and will be available the day of the Twilight Star Anniversary at Main Street Comics....

And the Red Bud version of the same book is already available at Indyplanet.

Between the two studios we got you covered if you are a die hard Simon Pryce junkie....and we work the same deal with another book....Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre.

Price For The Asking #3 (Man Of Ash)...a Price For The Asking special short story (Boys Of Summer-featuring the return of original PFTA artist Brian Latimer and that will later be added to a Price For The Asking trade paperback) and Price For The Asking #4 (Motor City Madhouse-also featuring Brian Latimer) are ALL IN PRODUCTION RIGHT NOW!!!

Moving on...moving on to town to town....across the nation and across the world!!!!! (echo echo)

I finally made progress in mailing some comp copies to creators that have worked with Twilight Star over the last year....sorry for the delay fellows, but this was one of the rare Saturdays I had off from the day job...that I wasn't booked at some kind of event at a comic store in the area.

Got books out to Sam Johnson....a great writer who lives in England. Sam wrote Gold Town which appeared in Pandemonium Spotlight #2

This was actually a secondary re-order and it's great to see the book is still selling well across the pond. All comp copies of this book has been taken care of since Champion City.

Then we went west...to Nevada and SIN CITY as I was finally able to get books out to colorist Jonny Rizzo who worked on the covers of both versions of Did Somebody Call For A Hero: Hero Of The Day and the 2nd printing of Tales From The 'Field #2

All comp copies of these two books have been taken care of.

SPECIAL NOTE-a very limited supply of copies of Hero Of The Day along with 14x20 art prints of the cover art of this book by Derron Church, tim Hagans, and Jonny Rizzo will be available at Star Con 2011 at Tim Hagans table-ONLY

Let's see from there we shot up to Oregon, Canada, New Hampshire, and finally South Carolina as I took care of comp books going to Mark Saxton (cover colorist of Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #1 and the artist of Catching The Bus which also appears in the same book, Jeremy McHough (artist of The Diner), Jaymes Reed (letterer of The Diner) and Olivier Raymond (artist of Bomb Sight) all of which also appear in Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #1.

All comp copies of this book have now been taken care of...well I still need to send a couple to Ron and Rob but I'm going to wait until the release of Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #2 to do that (more on that later).

Very interesting note about Jaymes Reed, since letting the Diner he has written the special Lucille Ball Tribute Comic from Blue Water Comics.....which was released on what would have been Lucy's 100th birthday this past August.

My loving wife is completely nuts about Lucy and just had to get a copy of this book. We spent a couple days in Jamestown New York (Lucy's birthplace) a few years ago (which isn't that far from Buffalo....kind of a joint vacation seeing how I'm a huge Bills fan). And Scott Riley was able to get her a copy of the book with the cover seen above.

She has since learned that there was two other covers and has been bugging the Hell out of Scott to get copies of those books as well.

So Jaymes if you're reading this...hook a brother up!

As a special treat for my wife Lucy makes an "appearance" in Ravenwood: Stepson Of Mystery "When Death Calls" which I wrote for the Ravenwood anthology published by Ron Fortier's Airship 27-ON SALE NOW-Check it out.

With the mailing of these books I've almost gotten the comp copy back log taken care of.....

Still owe a copy of Pandemonium Spotlight #1 to cover artist Ian Maday...out in Colorado

This book collects four different horror stories that I wrote for the Pandemonium Spotlight series through it's first year of production (issues #1-3) and was released at Champion City where the series debuted in 2010. Features art by Chris Metzger, Chris Hoskins, Scott Riley, and Chad Strohl....I will have a very limited supply of these books at Star Con 2011.

Still owe Lisa Moore and Oscar Pena (both in Texas) copies of the 2nd printing of the Un-Naturals Source Book featuring a brand cover colored by Lisa (Lisa colored the cover for the first printing but she wanted to do a second version and this one really rocks!)

Copies of this book will be available at several different tables at Star Con and I will have full color 14x20 prints of the cover art by Gary Church, Joe Pruitt and Lisa Moore at my table

Still owe Lisa, Rob Davis (Hello Missouri), Brant Fowler (in Kentucky) and Ron (also in Colorado) copies of Pandemonium Spotlight #3......our fastest selling book to date.

Gary and I will have limited copies of this book on hand at Star Con and I will have full color prints featuring cover art by Robin Humer, Scott Riley, and Lisa Moore.

And then it's off to the Lone Star State one last time ...I still owe Cary Kelley a copy of Tales From The 'Field # 3 for his lettering on the Un-Naturals preview that appears in that book by Derron Church and myself

One of our strongest books the studio has put out in the last year and it will be at several creator tables at Star Con.

And once these books are mailed out (probably the week after Star Con....got to re-build the cash box) we're all caught with our comp copies!!!!!!!

Until Jack The Rabbit #2, Pandemonium Spotlight #4, Cygann #1, Necrotrancer-Shades Of Gray, Tales From The Field #4, Cybann #2, Twilight Star Team-Up #1 and Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #2 all heading your way by the end of 2011 from the studio that never sleeps!

Chad Strohl.....yeah...that's my bud. I used to work with that guy on a web comic once...hope he doesn't forget about me!

And you should see the other three versions he did...any one of them would have made just great covers!!!!

Progress on the official Twilight Star website is still moving forward and trust me it will be worth the wait. The construction of the site is now in the very capable hands of Chris Cantrell who also just happens to be very talented comic creator in his own right. The guy produces one of the best web comics out there called The Deadlys.

He writes, draws, colors, letters, and post this thing EVERY DAY.

Joe Pruitt and I are huge fans of this web comic......see...

That's Joe sporting the awesome Deadlys t-shirt and hanging out with fellow Twilight Star creator Tim Hagans and Tim's brother Sam at the Champion City after party with the band Nine Volt.

Chris has also already released the first collected volume of the Deadlys which I was lucky enough to get a copy of at Gem City comic con this past April.

And in a real clever way to connect the website...Chris Cantrell....great web comics that will be later collected into books....Joe Pruitt and that Bill guy once the site is up it will host the Bumtastic Four web comic (which will only run weekly).

I write this thing, Joe does the art and it looks like we are on the verge of finally get a colorist and letterer attached to it as well.

As Twilight Star Studios plows into year three....that does mean that phase three of our three year plan is going effect. The actual anniversary of the studio is Oct 6th...coming up this Thursday. 2 years ago at Main Street Comics And Games Gary Church and I had become very fed up with the total train wreck that had become of a project the two of us were working on for another publisher.

Almost at the same time we decided we were going to form a new creative , comic publishing studio in The 'Field. together, (originally we both planned to form a studio of our own but thankfully we decided to join forces) and the rest is history.

Year One-
The studio produces 12 books
Attends our first convention
Our books are in seven comic shops in the local area
The studio is nominated for a Champion City Award

Year Two-
Sales increase....as does the size of the studio itself.
We produce 16 more books ( so far in the year 2011) for a total of 28 releases in two years and there's still time to get more out at least before the calender year comes to a close.
Each convention appearance we make is more successful than the one before.
We are featured at our first creative panel at Gem City
Find the best damn printer in the world
Have a three page story on the studio appear in the local paper
Frank remembers to wear pants to the after Champion City Dinner
We establish a full time hub for just our books at Main Street Comics and Games
In store appearances at the great stores that support us throughout the year....including Super Fly Comics, Comic Town, Main Street Comics, and World's Greatest Comics

And with some help from Captain Ron....we just re-staffed the studio with five new letterers, a new formatting guy, three new inkers, and a one new colorist.

And now the third year is upon us

And there is some change in the air....more like very positive evolution that will make the books we produce even more appealing to the people that buy them.

There is going to be some slight shuffling of creative teams on our books as these new creators come on board.

And we all have the same mind set.

If you are working with Twilight Star by this time next year.....making comics will be your day job. That will be the way you pay your bills. Sound unrealistic?

I don't think so. I think we can do it. I know I'm going to try my damnest to see this through. And looking at what the studio has achieved in the past two years alone. Working with guys that have full time jobs, a wife, kids, injuires and sickness, multiple shifts and still can produce 5 pages of finished art (penciled and inked) in five days, letter two pages a day, turn in 24 pages of completed pencil art in 90 days, ink a page a day, and write a full 24 page comic script in three hours.....there's only one answer that comes to my mind when asked .....do you think you can pull it off.

HELL YEAH!

See you soon with updates about these new creative teams......the latest on Twilight Star Annual #2, Twilight Star Team-up #1, Necrotrancer : Shades Of Gray, Lost Grooves, Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macbre #2, Jack The Rabbit #2, Cygann #1, Young and Wasted, Cyber-Christ, The Un-Naturals, Tales From The 'Field #4, Pandemonium Spotlight #4, Cygann #2, Anti-Humans #1, Prodigy #2, Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre # 3, and Pandemonium Spotlight #5

WE NEVER SLEEP

Seeing how the damn Bengals can't even sell out a home game in Ohio.....I don't get to watch my beloved Buffalo Bills because the NFL has blacked out the game for my viewing area. I can't even watch my second favorite NFL team....whoever it is that is playing those hated Pittsburgh Steelers....not showing that game either.

Where's Dion Sanders when you need him?

So might as week finish this round of updates.....like I mentioned earlier there is a lot going on with Twilight Star right now. A great time to be a creator associated with the studio, and a great time to be a fan of what we produce.

Earlier I mentioned some changes....I forgot to mention the inside cover of our books will be changing after October 2011. We have always ran a gray scale reproduction of the cover art on the inside cover with the creative credits over that. Well at Champion City last month we ran the 2nd printing of Did Somebody Call For A Hero.....Hero Of the Day with a unique inside cover.

We ran a stark white cover with the actual "Twilight Star" ironically first designed by Chad Strohl and seen here on the Twilight Star banner that runs across the cover on the inside cover.

I can't believe how well received that was!

And seeing how we are heading into the most important year of the studios existence we are going to mark it by having this same inside cover on each of our books with the credits.

And one the day we celebrate our 2nd year anniversary you will be able to buy t-shirts with the same star on the front of it at Gary Church's table while supplies last. Twilight Star t-shirts are always a big seller at every show we have them at and man these are HOT!!!! I already got mine on order....that's a 2x Gary!!!!

And as a bonus the awesome t-shirt design by Dan Matthews that also debuted at Champion City will be on the back of the same shirt in a miniature version right below the neck line!

Be the first on your block to own one!

Lost Grooves update!

Recently received word from Mr. Chad Lambert that this book is nearing completion and should be finished and released in January!!!! What a great way to kick off the new year!!!!

This is an incredible "Best Of" Chad Lambert....Vol. 1. All in one super priced book that won't break your piggy bank! Chad is one of the best writers working in the indie comic scene. Two of his graphic novels /trade paperback easily are two of my all time favorites (Return To Point Pleasant and Kill The Revisionist) And I love his Possum At Large stuff....the VERY FIRST Possum At Large story that Chad ever worked on does appear in this book! I don't even own that.....yet.

That will change in January.

Believe it or not the SECOND issue of Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre may very well be ready before Halloween!
What a perfect time to release a new horror anthology!!! and this really bumps up the entire production schedule for this series.

This is a "sort of" sneak peak of the cover of issue #2 by artist Olivier Raymond. Both Ron and I have decided to keep the actual cover which is also colored by Olivier under wraps until the book itself is released. But I will tell you one thing....IT IS AWESOME!!!!! One of the best covers that I have ever seen!

What the Hell...I'll tell you something else.

I'll have a VERY limited number of full color 14 x 20 prints available at my table at Star Con 2011....this is first time the cover will be seen and the only time it will be seen until the book is hot off the presses.

I send the files of two of three all new stories by Ron Fortier including the cover to our new man behind the curtain....Chad Strohl...so he can start working on getting this ready for the printer....tonight!

Cover artist Olivier Raymond was so excited when he heard that there would be color prints available first time at the Main Street Comics And Games mega-event Oct. 15th that he e-mailed last night and requested one....signed by every member of Twilight Star in attendance!!!

Only one thing to say to a request like that.............HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got to give a BIG shout out here to the new letterer on this book CHRIS McQUAID who lives up in Olivier's neck of the woods in the GREAT WHITE NORTH....he just joined this book and has already finished lettering one of the stories and starts the other remaining story that will need lettered tomorrow night at the rate this guy works he should have all ten of those pages lettered by.....TOMORROW NIGHT....just kidding but man is this guy a fast high quality letterer who will be popping up on not only this book but elsewhere as well. Chris will be the only letterer working on issue #2...one story is a silent story that has no words.

Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #2 features the center story----Black Armor Black Magic with stunning artwork by Miami artist Kurt Belcher and the book kicks off with a story called Uncle Nicholaus with art by Jason Copeland. The silent story The Lonely Guy with art by Cesar Feliciano closes out the book.

And guess what?

Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #3 is already in the works as well! All the art is finished and like issue #2 of the series Ron and I thought it would be great to highlight a solitary creator like we did with letterer Chris McQuaid in issue #2. This time around it's inker Luis Alonso who will be on every story in this book and there's four in issue #3

Rent A Body with art by Hoyt Silva-letterer to TBA
Scarecrow Scares with art by Jesus Marquez-letterer TBA
Rats-with art by BRIAN LATIMER!!!!!

and Matilda with art by Emil Koepcke...already being lettered by MaGnUs

All of these stories never before seen elsewhere!

Cover art by Mr. Jigsaw artist GARY KATO!!!!!!

Wait there's more....what about Ron Fortier's Tales Of The Macabre #4??? Yep...also in the works.

This book should be coming out around Gem City 2012 and it will feature a reprint of

Deadline with art by Rob Davis and that recently ran in Pandemonium Spotlight #3
Also in the book two brand new stories....Happy town and The Challenge

After issue #4............what about a trade paperback? You bet......you see.... the whole year three pan continues to unfold right before your eager eyes!

In all this excitement let's not forget the one the only.....Tales From The 'Field ...Twilight Star's flagship book and our premiere anthology series. Work continues on issue #4 which will be the second issue released in 2011. we're getting pretty good at doing two of these a year.

Art production of the book is supposed to be finished by the end of October and as always this book is a fine representation of the different talent we are fortunate to have in this studio .

Issue #4 of TFTF will feature

A five page preview of the OGN graphic novel Cyber-Christ which will be released in 2012.....see see.....world conquest in 2012 right before the world is destroyed by the Nectimidar in December 2012.

Cyber-Christ is written and illustrated by Stacy Gaston (remember that name.....this guy is a force to be reckoned with. He's going to be everywhere in just a month or so) and the five page preview will be lettered by MaGnUs

Legacy Part Four-written and illustrated by Derron Church lettered by MaGnUs

The Crook:The Lam-written and illustrated by Kevin Adkins. This will feature two pages that ran as The Heist in the 2nd printing of Pandemonium Spotlight #1 which were lettered by Steve Brewington. The six new pages will be lettered by MaGnUs

Kevin will also be doing the cover art for this book....with colors by JONNY RIZZO!!!!!!

Wrapping up the book the LONG AWAITED RETURN of G-CODE-written and penciled by Gary Church.....this extended page comeback that features the continuation of the story Gary started in TFTF #1 will aslo feature inks by Tim Hagans and will be lettered by MaGnUs

What? No Frank or Bill in issue #4? No....we got kicked out. Not really just not enough room for us this time around but don't worry we will be back. Frank and I will in issue #5 out by Gem City 2012...not sure what Frank has up his sleeve but I will be working on the feature story of the book with Gary Church entitled "Remember Tomorrow" which continues the story "A Matter Of Life And Death" which appeared in TFTF #1 and "The Evil That Men Do" which followed up that tale in the 2nd printing of TFTF #2...and I will be inking Gary's pencils on this story as well. I always have fun with that!

Hey look....that Stacy Gaston guy is back already!!!!!

I told you this guy was going to be everywhere soon! This is a concept art piece of "Rebecca" that Stacy did and that recently appeared as a two page sneak peek to the story "Crossing Pon's Bridge" which is written by my daughter RAICHAL GLADMAN and illustrated by the soon award winning Stacy Gaston.

This is a seven page story that was originally going to run in a future issue of Tales From The 'Field but is now planned to run as a back up feature to Twilight Star Team Up #1 which is now in production. The first 17 pages of TSTU #1 will feature the story "One Night In Chicago " which teams up Twilight Star characters Necrotrancer (created by me) and Cyber-Cat and Zodiac (two characters created by Tim Hagans) The story is plotted by Tim and I and I wrote the script. Pencils will be by regular Necrotrancer artist James Hill...

..and inked by Tim Hagans. Cover art will be penciled and inked by James and (hopefully) colored by Lisa Moore. No letterer attached to One Night In Chicago but letterer George Warner will more than likely lettering Crossing Pon's Bridge

George is already hard at work on issue #1 of the new Cygann series written and illustrated by Stacy. Stacy already has at least five issue of this series done! Maybe seven!!!! I can't remember. Only thing is he hand lettered every issue and we are in the process of have George go through the stuff and re-letter it...the man's doing a great job. He may also be the guy that does the official lettering on the Cyber-Christ OGN also by Gaston!!!! Cygann #1 also features a great color cover by Knock ' Em Dead Dan Matthews.

Stacy next appears as the artist of the feature story to Pandemonium Spotlight #4 called Denial which is written by me and inspired by a short prose story written by Raichal which was in turn inspired by the film The Machinist. Stacy will be doing the cover to that one and I'm trying to talk him into letting me ink it and I REALLY want Chad Strohl to cover this one. Also in Pandemonium Spotlight #4 at least one if not two stories written by Josh Brown .

A quick side note here.....Pandemonium Spotlight #5 will feature a new story written by and illustrated by Robin Humer who drew the feature story Butterfly Girl in Pandemonium Spotlight #3....issue # 5 of this series will feature Josh Brown and the debut of HELLRIDER my supernatural western illustrated by Will Harris.

Back to that Stacy Gatson guy-Crossing Pon's Bridge will be reprinted as the feature story for Twilight Star Annual #2 which will be our free comic book for FREE COMIC DAY 2012....this time Stacy will get the cover of the book which features Rebecca from the Pon's Bridge story...Stacy already has this done ans man it is SMOKING!!! I hope to get Jonny Rizzo coloring this one. also in Twilight Star annual #2- a reprint of Denial...more Stacy...and some stuff from that other artist that's been tearing it up over at the studio that never sleeps.....KEVIN ADKINS!!!! Kevin's The Crook: The Heist and The Lam both will be appearing in this book too!

Who says that this isn't the age of multiple Twilight Star plugs?

I just found out some very interesting info about this Lucy book from multiple e-mails sent to me by Twilight Star associates Jaymes Reed, Ron Fortier, and Chad Lambert.

appears that due to some things about copyright art this was indeed the only cover produced for the book. Ellie can stop bugging Scott about it now.

And Chad Lambert was the editor on this book! Not only this one but he's been the editor on the series since issue #1 which featured George Carlin and issue #2...the Lucy book...and issue #3 which featured The Three Stooges!!!!

How cool is that?!?
