While Chuck and half the comic world is having a ball in New York this weekend (and we are expecting full reports there, Chuck..ha) I just
wanted to give any of you CR Chicago residents a heads up about next weekend. I, and artist Rob Davis, will be guest at the Windy City Paper & Pulp Show for the second year in a row. This is a small, three day show that is tons of fun and this year's theme celebrates the Anniversary
of the debut of pulpdom's premier adventure hero, DOC SAVAGE. Hope to see lots of you there.

Thanks Larry, much appreciated. And Chuck, who knows, maybe one of these days you and I will hook up at one of these and I'll act as
our guide to the world of pulp fandom. It's not at all much different than comic fandom, save the fans are a wee bit older. Ha.

With so many pulp focused comic projects in the works and films like The Spirit, I see pulp as very much a solid partner in the world of comics these days. I think a convention focused in that arena would be a LOT of fun.

Maybe I can tie it into a family trip to Chicago and attend the show next year. Katie and I had a blast spending a day at the Art Institute and seeing Rent there in 2006. I'm a big fan of the city and the sheer amount of comic creators, companies and now distributors always make it worth visiting in terms of Comic Related. Plus, Gordon lives there!

Hi All, been two days since I returned from my second trip to Chicago and the wonderful Windy City Pulp Con. I just now wrote a small
report on the weekend and submitted it to Chuck along with some photos. Hopefully you'll all see it up soon. What a fun show.

Great, great report! Thanks for covering both your recent shows for the site. In addition to the front page, I've added them to our growing conventions page, a growing achieve of where we've all been.

Mark, you must have read in my report that one of the gentlemen responsible for the Windy City Pulp Con is Doug Ellis. Hmm, wondering
if you guys might be distant cousins? biggrin.gif It really is a great show. Having done two of them now, I certainly plan on making it an annual
event and hopefully will get to meet you at next year's.

Not related as far as I know, but I have met Doug...must be like...jeez...eleven years ago now? Twelve maybe.

It was at a pulp and collectible paperback convention in Tampa, back when I still lived there.

Ron,

Did you meet John Gunnison, the guy who publishes High Adventure Magazine while in Chi?

Hi Glen,
Well we didn't get a chance to talk this year, but I've met John and we know each other. He's a really great guy and does a super job
with High Adventure and all his pulp reprints. The con is his and Doug Ellis' real jewel, as it really keeps the pulp community active.

Well with only one more day before this year's Windy City Pulp & Paper show, thought it was a good time to revive this thread. Have to days to clean up the house and run whatever errands need doing before heading Friday morning. Leaving Somersworth before sunrise,
as my plane out of Manchester, NH leaves at 7:30 AM. Going to need my Dunkin Donuts coffee when I get to airport big time. Ha. Amigo Rob Davis picks me up at Midway in Chicago and off we go to the Con for three days of pulp goodness.
Several new Pulp Factory brothers (that's our yahoos pulp group) will be attending for the first time this year, and includes one of Airship 27 Productions most prolific writers, Andrew Salmon from Vancouver, Canada. Really looking forward to meeting Andrew for the very first time. Old time friends from last couple of years include writer Van Plexico, artist Doug Klauba and Moonstone's own Joe Gentile.
The only downside to the entire weekend is that Sat is Free Comic Book Day and I'm going to miss it. Hopefully next year the show's promoters will move the date either the weekend before or after FCBD. Fingers crossed.
Okay, time to do some laundry.

Many thanks, Sean. Pretty got all the errands done. Now just count the hours, get to sleep very early tonight for that 4:30 AM alarm bell.
And this time tomorrow I'll be at the show with lots of my pulp amigos have a great time. Rob's bringing his digital camera, so expect to see lots of pictures and a hopefully detailed con report.
Hope everyone in the CR family has a super FCBD weekend.
