The name of episode #26 and the next topic. Russ and I were talking a tiny bit about it already. Looks like it will be Andre, Russ and I again this week unless I pull in a fourth.

But listeners, would love your two cents like last week.

So who are your favorite bad guys? Are you a fan of the morally grey area guys?

And if you can think of questions for the show, put them here and we will be happy to discuss them on the episode!

(also big guests for March 27th's episode. I'm excited but I think I'm keeping this one close to the chest until after the interview takes place.)

For me, growing up with Marvel--it was The Green Goblin. Both Norman and Harry made good villains, even Bart but was rather nasty. Norman of course was the worse of the bunch but I was quite Partial to Harry as the Green Goblin. I still hate that they brought Norman back from the dead, and not Harry.. after all Harry's death was never physically seen. Okay, that's enough of me for now.

Well you know I love Emma, and she's one of those morally gray area villains. Same goes for Magneto. I do love a good straight up "bad guy" though too. Joker, Ivy, Harley, Lex...

umm Harry has been back longer than his father Tim. At least to my knowledge.

I would but I'm no where near done with my costume for C2E2 (my fault for putting it off) and I still have to edit the show. As a matter of fact I'm going to my office right now to do both. biggrin.gif

Only in the recent alternate reality they created.

QUOTE
"In the aftermath of Spider-Man accepting an offer from Mephisto to save the life of his Aunt May in exchange for the elimination of his marriage from the timeline of history, Harry has somehow returned to life. Divorced from Liz and two others, he has returned from a years-long stay in a European rehab. He has no memory of being the Green Goblin, nor of Peter Parker's alter-ego. Harry is now the owner of a chain of cafes based on his old college hangout, the "Coffee Bean" and, while he considers Peter his best friend, he hates Spider-Man with a vengeance. He is currently dating Lily Hollister, friend of NYPD's forensic specialist Carlie Cooper and daughter of New York, District Attorney, Bill Hollister.

During the New York Mayoral Election, in the campaign headquarters of Bill Hollister, Harry stumbled upon Lily, while she was transforming from her alter-ego as Menace, the mysterious villain, who had been attacking the candidates for mayor. Harry was shocked, and upset with the incredible revelation, but he was even more fascinated to learn that Lily knew of his father's hidden labs and horrendous secrets. She revealed that while searching through the lab in New Jersey, she accidentally broke a vile containing the Goblin serum and it was absorbed into her skin, allowing her to transform into the Goblin, and not having the need for a mask. In an attempt to stop Lily, Harry donned the Green Goblin once again, and injected Lily with a serum that reversed the affects of the serum that she previously been exposed to."

I also like Magneto, I don't see him as a villain, I see him as someone who *thinks* he is right, and is doing what is best for his people.
Joker is another great villain, no middle ground with him.. he's evil to the bone.

Ah, but it'll be awesome and worth it. Besides my projects come after the ones that people pay me for. biggrin.gif

I like that there are villains that are completely evil out to get the world, then there are ones that are merely evil by their actions which they don't think are evil.

There are people like Lex though that I think fall somewhere between. He knows what he's doing is wrong, he's completely selfish but he doesn't care. He's also not trying to destroy EVERYTHING, just Superman.

That's a good point with Lex. I never saw him as straight up villain, just someone who goes out of their way to get what they want no matter the cost.
basically, he's a jerk. I think if it came to a point where the world was at danger of coming to an end, and that Superman was the "only" one who can save
the planet, that he'd go out of his way to actually help Superman rather than trying to kill him.

I fell in love with Jack O Lantern in that issue of Venom that just came out. He was the perfect bad guy and a killing machine.

Sorry I didn't get to make it into the show, guys. A couple of things I wanted to bring up:

I *hate* when they try to make the villain into an antihero or make him "seem more human" because he's popular. Mark Waid reversed this with Doom during his amazing run on FF with Mike Wieringo, and talked a bit about it in the actual PITCH for the title. The other really big example is Venom, and no I DO. NOT. CARE. if he's the same guy in the suit or not.

I feel like, in order to avoid the old "Because you didn't put this guy down when you had the chance, a million more will die" argument, most villains ought to be dispensed with or permanently incarcerated (for realsies) most of the time. Obviously the big hitters and the super-popular ones are always going to get out, but I like the way Erik Larsen handles it with Savage Dragon. Just BE FREAKING CREATIVE and MAKE NEW ONES. When you kill off or do away with a villain who's not A list, nobody will cry over it. And we really don't need to see Metallo every four months.

Which leads me to my other point: There is NO villain that we need to see every four months. I don't want Lex Luthor in EVERY "Superman" movie. The bottom line is, these guys have a rogues' gallery for a reason and there's always room to create new stuff. My favorite villains growing up were Bane and Doomsday, Conduit, Cyborg Superman and Savior, guys like that. Characters that were created to serve the needs of a storyline and only stayed around because they were awesome, as opposed to someone like Riot or the Hole in the Wall Gang (the current equivalent seems to be the Royal Flush Gang), who just appear whenever you need an easily-defeated seat-filler in an issue. IF they go down so fast, why can no jail hold them?!

It's okay, I know nothing about the character prior to that issue, so I am looking forward to hearing it.

Chiming in late. :-)

I'm with Russ on this one. So 'nuff said from me on that.

As for my favorite villain... uhhhhh....the truth is I'm one of those girls who just absolutely loves villains. So I can't pick a favorite.

I like it when they're written so that they're more "human" but... just choose to be bad.

Well, the Joker is one of my least favorites to be honest.

But when I was a kid, I really really liked the Penguin. You know, from that old show. Didn't get to read any of the comics for years after that, so.
