Hey Chaz if you like Ms. Marvel you should check out Dynagirl! smile.gif I'm also a huge Ms. Marvel fan. Never much cared for She Hulk, but I also dig Power girl a lot.

I actually want to start reading some Ms. Marvel. I will have to check out dynagirl biggrin.gif

I think if guys didn't like female comic book characters, comic books wouldn't be as popular as they are today. You can have all the male hero worship you want in a comic, but it always needs that female counterbalance.

Obviously, Chaz most male comic fans I know discover both comics and girls at the same time. A decidedly strange, but true occurrence that happens often. And I'd be surprised if puberty induced crushes were the norm. I can remember thinking Lady Blackhawk in her leather outfit was hot from day one. Wonder Woman...well, what can I say. Then along came Black Canary and Zatanna. By the time I was in college, I worried that none of the girls I dated were going to be this kick-ass cool. tongue.gif Truth is, they were even cooler.

There are loads of female characters who I enjoy in comics. The top of the list has to be Squirrel Girl, Power Girl, the current Terra, Ms. marvel, Black Canary definitely. Harley Quinn.

Honestly especially the last decade it seems like the female heroes/villains have really got the spotlight again.

Oracle! Heh I really could keep going.

Top Cow, Image, Chaos and others did do alot for bringing in female characters, but the problem with alot of them was that they were terribly boring and one dimensional. Far too much like a fantasy version of a woman as written by a man. Then we got books like Birds of Prey (nearly killed by a God-awful TV show), ALIAS, Ant, and many more. When characters are written well, whether male or female, the entire comic book community benefits.

When first started to read comics, it wasn't a female character that drew me in, not at first. It was Peter Parker/Spider-Man that drew me in, even though he was older than I was, his life reminded me of my own somehow... and that's what made me interested in comics. After that it was the X-Men, Batman, and a few others.

I think that if guys didn't like female comic book characters, comic books would STILL be as popular as they are today despite the notion of "sexy" women drawing us in. Superman was a huge reason for the popularity of comics, but Lois wasn't the driving force behind the book, it was Superman himself that made it popular.

The witchblade universe and Sarah herself weren't interesting until Ron Marz saved the character and her world.

I liked the BoP TV show. sad.gif That came out when I was in my "closet nerd" phase. I loved it.

Is that the Wonderland that Dan Leister did? It looks like the Alice I got from him at Champion City.

Chaz! A second webcomic writer with a female lead chimes in. Althought Dynagirl can kick Meta-Girl's ass any day of the week in her sleep, you should still come read smile.gif

I missed so much of this thread and this is a topic I really like, so let me try to chime in on everything.

I really enjoyed the recent Ms. Marvel series when it first started, but it got stale for me after awhile. I think it's because it was so plugged into all the Marvel crossover junk that I couldn't handle it. I enjoyed the stories about her personal life a lot more than I did the "main plot."

Top Cow did do a lot for bringing female characters in, but as was stated, they are very much all the same and one dimensional. "Hi, I'm half naked, and I blow stuff up! Rawr!" While it's fun a lot of the time, and certainly with Top Cow's art teams it's pretty to look at, it gets really old after awhile, which is why Top Cow's so diminished. The storytelling and character focus wasn't there.

My favorite female superheroes are Batgirl (all 3 batgirls have been wonderful, but the current incarnation of Stephanie Brown is wonderful) and Spider-Girl. They seem to be more down to earth than bad ass (though there's nothing wrong with bad ass!), so I related more to them.

I shall have to check out both of those webcomics later.
