I'm not sure if anyone is interested in this sort of thing, but here is the rough version of the sketch cover I'm working on right now - Defenders #1, featuring Iron Fist. I generally go from super rough pencils like this directly into ink with my brush. Since I'm inking the work myself, there's no real reason to do double work with tighter pencils. I know it is out of fashion these days, but I really like the spontaneity of working this way. Ultra-tight pencils, to me, always seem stiffer.
I'll post the finished piece in the next couple of days so you can compare the two stages...I'm also probably going to add a couple of more heads into the layout to balance the design a bit.  -Mat N. -------------------- Mat Nastos, Super Genius

Back from the aptly named Amazing Arizona Comic Con. The show was fantastic again this year and I had a lot of fun.
My new sketch cover continues with the trend of 70s/80s style characters, this time with Rogue and a bunch of characters from my favorite period of the X-men. Up until this piece I had been thinking my base "non-elf" style was Al Milgrom, but now I'm thinking it's a bit more Kerry Gammil. What do you guys think?
