What do you all think of the new logo design now that we've seen it fleshed out more? We talk about it on tomorrow's Zone 4 and pretty much collectively panned the basic concept of it. I'm curious to hear everyone's reactions now that we see their actual plan for its use. -------------------- |

I think it is too much of a change from the original logo. I mean, yeah, DC have changed the logo before, but this is such a drastic difference compared to the original that it almost feels like a new company. |

From a designers stand point, I think it is beautiful. Love the way it plays on the DC. Wish I would have come up with it.

I love it more than chocolate. Fantastic design, great tactile "feel" with the "peeling off" sense in the graphic, and a super leap forward for comic book company logo design generally.
It evokes a sense of being a much more complex organization--film, comics, multimedia--than just a comic book company. Hands-down, best design I've ever seen for a comic book company. [Insert lots of redundant exclamation points here.] -------------------- Owner and Creator at PixelFigs

Fred, don't bother listening to Zone 4 this week. Hahahah. Brant, Gordon and I unanimously hate this thing and consider it visually boring as hell.

*haha* I got that impression, Ron! I'll still listen, though--but I'll be talking to my screen the whole time, saying, "You're all WRONG WRONG WRONG!!" ;-)

Looking at who is siding with who, looks to be the old guard versus the new guard. Hmm, too bad we didn't all live in Springfield, we could settle this with a round of disc golf!!

Honestly, the new elements we see here today are more appealing than the bland original image we got last week. I still hold my opinions of the original image, but seeing it in use is a little more appealing.

I kind of like it, DC is making it more digital and easier to click on in the "digital world" of the near future.

Ron, Personally, the only way I would like this if if provided DC with enough money to hire Brant to do a much better logo (And really, guys - the new logo sounds like something a corporate mind would come up with - vanilla, bland, and not really striking) Gordon -------------------- Tipping Sacred Cows since 2004 at http://www.blogthispal.com

(And really, guys - the new logo sounds like something a corporate mind would come up with - vanilla, bland, and not really striking) Gordon Gosh, really? Of course, design sensibilities are partially personal preference, but yow--this design hits every "YES" column in the book for good design. It's both understated in form but dynamic in execution (the variations), it conveys something far beyond "we are a comic book company" and instead conveys a strong message of "we are an entertainment company with many facets" while engendering confidence with a simple typeset that's beautifully offset by a very dynamic, high-tech "peel-away" design. Add to that that it's specifically purposed to adapt to whatever product they're putting it on and man, you have a winner. ditto Fred. It's ballsy, but so was the relaunch. They're branding themselves for a modern age. It's sleek as hell and I say, "Well done!"

My main problem with the redesign in general: They literally just changed the logo 5-6 years ago. Why the need for another change so soon?
I don't completely hate it either, from my design background (the only one of us not practicing due to not having any of the programs) I think its kind of lazy and the designer really didn't try until they got to the individual tries for the separate titles. But yeah, not won over yet but I don't flat out hate it. -------------------- |

DC put out an official press release that contains more of the character-specific versions of the logo. I've updated the story with those (scroll down):
http://comicrelated.com/news/14819/dcs-new-identity As you'll hear us discuss on Zone 4 tomorrow night, it reminds us of those kiddie band-aids and feels very corporate. We discuss it further on next week's Transmissions after seeing the new images, and while I still feel the textures and colors help it, we still pretty much agree, as Eric says, it's lazy and uninspired. From comments I've read across the net, it's VERY polarizing. You either love it or you hate it for the most part. Very few people I've seen are on the fence about it. And furthermore, inspiration for the new logo? Hmm... https://twitter.com/#!/peeltv http://peeltv.posterous.com/ -------------------- |

It's pretty lame. You can't even tell it's supposed to be D and a C unless someone tells you first.
