Been sitting on this one for a few weeks now and am damn happy to be able to finally announce it. Moonstone Books is putting together a brand new pulp anthology starring the classic pulp spy hero, Operator 5. Along with stories by editors Joe Gentile & Gary Phillips, also participating are writers Win Scott Eckert, Jeri Westerson, Tommy Hancock, Eric Fein, Aaron Shaps, Will Murray, Martin Powell....and me. cool.gif

The fun of this collection is it will have a connecting thread running throughout the book, although the stories will still be independent of each other, they will end the end shape the book as a whole. Much like the classic Purple Invasion plot that ran through many issues of the original pulp magazine itself. I'll provide more details as it all comes together. No official release date has yet to be announced.

Thanks, Glen. Fingers crossed I can pull it off. Always get a wee bit nervous when dealing with classic pulp characters. Folks know these heroes and it is crucial, at least to me, to get them right.

Good to hear good news for a change. Actually, this place is often a place of good news, bar one or two occassions a year.

(I won't mention what the current sitch is at the moment on these boards, but I do hope it is resolved.)

Anyway, don't worry about it Ron. There will always be those who nit pick the littlest things, then nitpick the other littlest things. Just as long as you maintain an interest in the character, and bring your own take to the book, you should be fine.
Be faithful enough to show the reader you also love the character, but deviate with the material too, so that they, and you, do not get bored.

Best of luck/ Break a leg or whatever you say in comics to do well. wink.gif

Hahahaha, Cougar, I do think I know what you refer to in your opening lines here. I was just glance at a sort of heated thread and found myself thinking the most ironic thought I've ever had in this business, "Boy, am I glad I'm not an artist!" wink.gif

Thanks for the encouraging words as well. Classic characters do have followings, but you are right, these same readers want to see new takes and most of all, new adventures done with today's sensibilities. It's a fine balancing act I'd like to think I've been able to maintain in my previous work on such characters as the Phantom, Domino Lady, the Spider and the Avenger. As you pointed out, I do love these pulp heroes and am extremely excited and honored to be adding Operator 5 to the list.

Yeah, writers are lucky.

Whens the last time someone complained "Hey!!! You swiped that from Times New Roman!!!" wink.gif
