From Bleeding Cool:
QUOTE The Gary Friedrich situation caused much furore amongst comic book artists, wondering if they were at risk of any future action by any publisher for drawing and selling sketches of their chatracters at a comic convention. Marvel tried to placate such fears but without any blanket statements that Marvel or Disney would not legally target anyone sketching and selling Marvel characters now or in the future, many remained… unplacated. Those fears may find support after the Tformers.com report that Hasbro has forbidden the selling of any non-official Transformers art at this year’s Hasbro-sponsored Botcon convention. It’s not blanket however, those who have been contracted at one point to provide artwork for Hasbro are free to sell such work. But wannabees are forbidden. Interesting. Being a pessimist I expect to see more of this down the road as corporations become more hostile toward those that infringe upon their intellectual properties. -------------------- You know, life is funny.

I don't, and I really don't see how Hasbro can police this moving forward. I fully expect this to be a temporary ban that will eventually be lifted. Thanks for posting the update Scott. Pessimist, so I'm reading it as. . . "We're pleased to announce, per Hasbro, that artist tables will be allowed at BotCon 2012 as we have allowed it in the past, and will be permissible as part of the show. . . THIS TIME!" -------------------- You know, life is funny.

If I was Hasbro, I'd be very concerned about responses like this from fans;
QUOTE You know, Botcon was always one of the few cons I would have loved to go to.
No more. Hasbro has cut off their nose to spite their face. While I will on occasion buy official releases, I think I am sticking with 3rd party from here on out. More creativity, more variety, and in a lot of cases, more quality. They only brought it upon themselves... -------------------- |
