I'm considering a kickstarter campaign to fund a book I'm helping with. For those of you who have run campaigns, how many were successful and do you have any advice for someone trying it for the first time?

You're absolutely correct about point #1 Dan.

The ADD Internet generation will eviscerate a Kickstarter if it doesn't have a solid video pitch. Make sure you script your pitch, and edit it to flow smoothly. If you're going to add music to it, please make sure the soundtrack does not drown out your sales pitch.
