Since Rob Davis and I started Airship 27 Productions, to produce new pulp novels and anthologies, our business plan was to only focus on public domain properties where we would never be hassled by having to pay a licensor for rights to anything. So for the past seven years, that policy has worked extremely well for us and we now have over fifty titles in our catalog. Note, in that six years we've expanded beyond just publishing classic pulp 30s hero and have accepted brand new pulp heroes as written by today's finest new pulp writers.

Then out of the blue at the end of last year, we were approached by the licensor of a highly popular fictional character and asked if we would like to produce a novel starring this hero, with no fees attached!! The licensor stated the quality of our books clearly indicated our position in the new pulp community and they wanted their property published via Airship 27 Productions.

This time, next Monday, 9th July, the official press release along with accompanying cover art will be go out revealing what has been our TOP SECRET project these past six months. To say we are terribly excited about this venture would be an understatement indeed. So count the days, Loyal Airmen. A whopping cool surprise is on its way as Airship 27 Productions announces its first ever licensed title.

Any way I can help, just yell. I'm looking into getting a large-format printer to print out pencils, etc., so that may come in handy someday....but I'll help get the word out when it's time.

Many thanks Bill. I'll be posting the official Press Release along with the book's cover image early Monday morning on the Airship 27 Productions Facebook page. By all means feel free to "share" it on your own page. The more word of mouth we can generate the better. Again, thanks for your support, amigo. It is much appreciated.

Nostradumbus says That Airship 27 has gotten the rights to Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu. Which could be modernized a bit to be a staunch anti communist. He could work behind the scenes to try to overthrow the Chinese government and make himself Emporer of China as he tries to control the world through nefarious means... I'm sorry Ron, for letting the cat out of the bag, as it were. It really helps that Steve Ditko has agreed to draw an issue of Mr Jigsaw.

That would be fantastic! If it were true.
For now I'm going to just have to sit and wait.
But I know the first place I'm going when I get home from work Monday evening.

Hahahaha, Art you know, that last bit about Ditko drawing Mr.Jigsaw is too much. Truth is, he IS a big fan of the strip, as Gary Kato sends him every copy we do. And as you know, Gary does draw in his style. As for our getting the rights to Dr. Fu Manchu, ironically, I just wrote a review of THE DESTINY OF FU MANCHU by William Patrick Maynard. This is the second Fu Manchu book Maynard has done for Black Coat Press and I personally think they are fantastic so there's no way I'd ever upset that series with that writer.

Stay tuned, amigos, Monday morning is almost upon us. Now I'm getting nervous stomach, hoping all the hoopla meets with all your approval. Nothing more fearsome then getting all of you excited, then having read our news and go, "Oh, hum."

All fingers crossed we'll have lots of WOWS and HOLY SMOKES. tongue.gif

Let's go deducing here! There are only a few characters out there still holding live trademarks that would excite Ron. My money is on the Green Hornet beause Ron has a good track record there and the movie ran GH diwn the crapper.
Next is the Rocketeer seeing how Mr. Fortier loves the stiry and character so much. It could be Muke Hammer,The Shadow, Black Mask,or The Lone Ranger. I discount the Idea if Dic SAVAGE, Tarzan, or Zorro....There are stull live copyrights on most of those and trademarks too. Maybe Alex Eoss wull do some covers for Red Bud Studios.

Art you certainly know my comics career well and those characters you mentioned are truly awesome, I'd love to write all of them. Keep in mind this isn't going to be a comic book (sorry Redbud) but a prose novel and I can easily admit not a property we actually went after. It was brought to us by a writer who is a huge fan of this particular property. He has written it and Airship 27 Productions is publishing it.

So 24 hours to go. Tomorrow the Press Release and cover will be on my Facebook page and eventually here at CR as well. Gonna be a long day. Ha.
Thanks for your fun interest and that Black Owl was new to me. I could easily myself writing stories with him.

Ron, you diid not deny anything, which by omission may mean that one of the characters I named may be the one.I know there have been new Doc Savage tales. i was not aware of Fu Manchu. Green Hornet needs an image consultant as does the spirit. Both abysmal films. I'm having a hard time waiting on this announcement, but, it is only one more day. Maybe you should have a Robby, the Robot novel. He wasin multiple films and Tv shows, is well known, and is unused at the moment.....We can have George Carlson of Jingle Jangle Comics fame to draw it. Hey, Quality Comics had Bozo, the Robot!!!

I'll go a slightly different direction:

Remo Williams, Mack Bolan, Shell Scott?

Well, Shell Scott is already spoken of Glen, in regards to the new comic graphic novels Mark Ellis is writing, whereas Gold Eagle, the last time I looked, still had the rights to prose books on Mack Bolan and Remo Williams, all favorites of mine.

Note, the property we are putting out has NEVER appeared in a prose novel before....ever.

Until now... wink.gif
