So I'm curious, what was everyone's favorite news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con 2012?

If Firefly was really coming back that would have been huge, but other than the Ironman suit reveal I wasn't all that impressed with what I saw this year.

For me I have to say the best news was the confirmation of the Guardians of the Galaxy film and Winter Soldier being in Cap 2.

Overall, news was very underwhelming in the OMG department, I agree.

Yeah but see, is it going to be the Winter Soldier we got in the comics...or some Holywoodized massacre of that storyline? That, at this point at least, is why I'm not overly excited about it. Hollywood has a way of taking something incredibly cool from the comics and making it completely not cool at all. So we'll see. I'll hold my judgement on that till the jury comes back, but I could be stoked about that if it's true to the source material.

The GoG flick...lol yeah don't hold your breath. IF they make that movie, and I'm not saying that's even a sure thing at this point, it has HUGE dud potential. Avengers rocked because Marvel played that fiddle just like they did with the comics, and it worked to perfection. With GoG...no one outside comics knows any of these characters. It's going to be a hard sell IMO.

Cary, they officially announced it at Comic-Con. GOTG is happening. And as far as Winter Soldier goes, I was VERY happy with what Marvel Studios did with the first Cap (and all the Marvel Studios films for that matter), so I have faith they'll do it right.

I pose the theory that San Diego isn't going to be the spot where the companies make their big announcement for the year anymore. I think that will now be New York Comic Con. Why? If you look at it from a marketing perspective, it's almost impossible for Marvel, DC or anyone to grab the limelight for a pure comic book story when you're up against Tarantino, the Hobbit or any of a number of properties that the media is more used to and actually more comfortable covering.

Why blow the big story on a show where you know you're no longer going to grab CNN or Entertainment Weekly? A more purely comic focused show like New York leaves room in the traditional news cycle for your story to gain more traction which is what you ultimately want.

I was thinking something similar in that they'd certainly be saving some stuff for NYCC being the last show of the year, and that's where they'll promote most of the next year's stuff. But still, I think by and large, the bigger companies announce everything prior to the events now and just recap them for the live audiences. Which can be positive and negative I guess.

Yeah, I think they realize they get more punch for their dollar on comic news sites than they do before a live audience. Timing it ahead of the show gives them a moment where everyone is talking about their announcement. During a show like San Diego, they're trying to out shout the crowd which is increasingly impossible.

Mattel revealing that they are actually making a highly-demanded figure: ELASTI-GIRL (Rita Farr of Doom Patrol) as an oversize figure... and also Monsieur Mallah and the Brain as well!!! Awesome news for a Doom Patrol fan like myself!

Is this for the former DC Universe Classics line? I was surprised to see they are offering a subscription for next year. I could have sworn they said this year was the last year for the line, which is unfortunate because I've been a fan for years now.

Even if Mattel made collecting them a real challenge. Talk about awful distribution. It was almost as bad as the early 2000's He-Man re-launch.

For me it's probably the Mark Schultz Xenozoic Tales Artist Edition from IDW.
