My best friend's Dad worked at the local bakery (called Schaffer's Bakery back then...now called Klosterman's) and he would bring home boxes of maintence request sheets and inspection records...I would draw comics on the back side and staple them together....pass them out in school.

Some of my knock offs included The Purple Flame, Brown Spider, and Behemoth (who was a B-Grade Hulk rip off but instead of being green....he was red. I know stupid idea.)

Some of the more original characters I created were Gemini (an afro-american researcher and chemist working in Atlanta...whos' lab gets attacked by the K.K.K...ending up in an explosion that merged the two together. Both personailites always fought over control of the body which had energy manipulation powers....and due to the split personailty....sometimes he was a hero...other times a villain.)

Others included Liberty Lad, Solar Man, Monkey Man, Super Nova, Captain Vengeance, and Space Wolf.

Man I wish I still had that stuff!

Captain Vengeance later became just Vengeance and this character is still around today and will appear in my Jack the Rabbit story. Space Wolf will soon be recycled and appear in the second story arc of my ongoing Prodigy comic.

And I can relate to one more thing....I'm glad I ink my own work....I don't do a lot of pencil detail in the layouts...another inker trying to finish this stuff would probably end up shaving his head and running through the streets.

Naked.

I had a bunch of those too. I had Roach Boy, The Fatal Four, the Junior Avengers, Star Corps, and many more obvious knock-offs. Members of the Junior Avengers and Star Corps will come into play in some of my books if they ever see the light of day. Good times. I still have all my drawings of those, as lame as they are. smile.gif Some of them will pop up in my new column eventually. smile.gif

This week's podcast...

Brant/Scott... It was a blast and I thank you guys for doing it (and for swinging by our shared haunt on a regular basis). I was especially pleased with the intro music that Scott introduced me to. I've been checking out some of their other work. Nice!

Chuck, the latest episode, #52, was just great start to finish. Appreciated your reflections on the state of similar industry sites and the
sad goings on with Newsarama. Andrew's interview was a peach. Here's a guy I call a good buddy, have worked with now going on two years and never once heard is voice before. Ha. (You could say I'm not a big phone person...ha.) So it was a joy. Never mind both of
you totally gave me a swell head by the end of the talk. My wife had to slap me down extra hard that night. tongue.gif

It was a lot of fun talking with Andrew. He's such a cool, cool guy. I plan to grab some of his books (once I get things here a little bit more smoothed out and caught up). Just about everything he discussed sounded like a bast for me!

Can't wait until I roll out next week's episode. Live from the Flying Fist Ranch... Beau Smith!

Oh yeah, that's got to be fun. Beau's one of the Old Gang and no one does better action comics than he does. Will be eagerly awaiting this one.

I really enjoyed talking to Beau. Hope everyone checks this one out, especially his segment toward the end on advice for those working to make it in comics. His story and history in comics is a good one. Plus, we lead with Johnny Cash this week... How can you go wrong?

Thanks again Chuck. That was a blast! I hope I didn't " Ramble On" too much...I warned you...I like to talk.

(Can't believe I didn't drop a "F-Bomb" when the dog barked! I didn't know I had that much self control.....maybe I should feel a little more hopeful about this diet thing!)

This week's show!

Instead of it's traditional Wednesday launch, I'm afraid the Related Recap is going to be a day late this week. It will go live tomorrow evening. I've actually recorded six interviews in the last seven days and five of those occurred in the last 48 hours.

I need an extra day to get the first show finalize, but you're going to have a lot of audio content quickly following. Here's the revised plan

Tomorrow... Our own Gordon Dymowski is featured plus I announcement a new company I've partnered with!

Friday... Our Own Bill Gladman joins us for the hour

Next Wednesday... A special Christmas episode plus a conversation with indie creator Geoff Sebesta

Coming very soon...

Over on the ApeCast (and serving as a bonus episode here) - Chad Lambert discussing Return to Point Pleasant
Over on the ApeCast (and serving as a bonus episode here) - Ken Marcus and Justin Bleep discussing Super Human Resources

The Ape episodes will launch in our feed at roughly the same time they launch on the Ape Entertainment website and they will be packaged with a bit of extra commentary here at Comic Related.

As you can see, there have been some end of year schedule changes. The round table we had planned for next Wednesday should be our 2009 kickoff episode in early January. I needed just a bit more time to coordinate the logistics of getting us all talking on the show at the same time. Also, we had planned three episodes for this week, but a bout of laryngitis has sidelined John Wilson for the time being.

We'll be taking two weeks off from the podcast after next Wednesday to enjoy the holidays, but we'll be back on our weekly schedule starting again in January.

It's been a fun, fun year podcasting and there is MUCH more to come in 2009!

Cheers,
Chuck

Awesome interview podcast, Chuck. Gordon, I appreciate the gracious comments on my Green Hornet run. Thanks, amigo. And I really
agree all the way with your insightful assessment of what Comic Related is; a community where like-minded souls, be they fans or creators, come to hang out and just have sincere conversations about those things they cherish. And amicably agree to disagree on occasions. And your wonderful sense of humor really shined through this session. All fun stuff.

Almost forgot, Chuck. I really liked your wrap up comic reviews. By all means, continue doing these. I only get a handful of comics these days, but am always interested at what is out there and recommendations from fellow CR amigos are always helpful.

That review element has gotten a great response. It is now a fixture of the show. Requested... Done!

Chuck.

That sounded great! What a great job putting that together.

Just wanted to let you know the place I was thinking about but couldn't remember where I saw Ace earlier this year was indeed Bogarts...you had it right.

Just didn't sound right the night we discussed it.

Thanks again.

Hi guys. Had a long day yesterday, what with the ice storm New England got covered with and all. I managed to listen to the first 25 minutes of this last night and will wrap it up later today. So far am enjoying it greatly. G-Man, you are one busy dude! I am totally impressed.

Ha, you guys are seriously too much! What a great episode! G-Man, I am in awe of what you've done and accomplished. And please, keep us posted on how Rachel fares at Marvel. All fingers have been crossed..ouch, ouch, ouch. Chuck, am really happy to hear you are going to be doing some Pulp Cons this year. Airship 27 Prod. will be at the Windy City Paper & Pulp show in Chicago in may, our third year. And because of Sean Collins, I'm personally looking at Mid-Ohio Con this year. Will see what happens after the first of the new year rolls around.
Finally, I love the original CAPTAIN MARVEL, always have. And Jeff Smith's take on him was just dead-on. Another wonderful hour!
Oops, almost forgot. Brant Fowler's idea of a Comic Related comedy strip is brilliant. This sound so wild, I can't wait to see it launched.
Bravo Chuck & Bill.

As always Chad Lambert is an interesting and entertaining guest. Can't wait to get a copy of Return to Point Pleasant (I still need to pick up a copy of Kill the Revisonist as well).

It will be nice to see Chad again this April at Gem City.

What a fun episode. Hi Chuck, Having just gotten home last night form the Colorado, trip, I'm going through the forums here trying to play catch up and listen a little more to your Christmas podcast. Please, never ever call me a "comic legend" when my wife is within ear range.
biggrin.gif I'm going to be paying for that one all year. Ha. She actually got out a tape measure and wrapped it around my head to see if any
swelling was taking place.
Thanks for playing Snoopy & the Red Baron. Obviously also a personal favorite. I hadn't heard it in years. And you were right, of course,
being an aviation buff, when Schultz started that whole Snoopy as a WW I fighter pilot series, I too loved it. The Sopwith Camel doghouse.
It was so funny and to this day still makes me chuckle.
Great episode, amigo. Thanks as always.

I'm finally starting to catch up on these. Over the past couple of days I've listened to the ones with G-Man and Gordon. Really good stuff. Can't wait to listen to some more!
