You people need to get hold of Greg Rucka's Whilteout from ONI press. It was first released in 1998 and with only one subsequent series following it it is absolutely fantastic. The third volume is due out in 2009 to tie in with the Kate Bekinsale movie. The story follows Carrie Stetko, a U.S. Marshal working at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, and her investigation of a murder that takes place there. The story moves through many Antartica stations, as Stetko chases down suspects and finds more murders. I cannot do this book justice here but would urge you to check it out.

Absolutely Ron, I did Steve an injustice there, sorry Steve! Just to show how good the art is, can you imagine trying to do a black and white book set in one of the coldest places on earth and the main outside backdrop of your art is SNOW! It's just beautiful. Not every artist could pull it off.

I just read Gotham By Gaslight. I can't get over how this book has stood the test of time. It is 20 years old and one of the best Bat stories I have ever read. Brian Augustyn knocked the story out of the park and a pre Hellboy Mike Mignola drew the most atmospheric Bat I have seen in ages. This one is highly recommended.

Read Spawn/Batman last night. From 1994, written by Frank Miller and drawn by Todd Mc Farlane. It was awful. Miller was only taking the piss writing it and the Mc Farlane art on Batman was childish but great on Spawn. Did he not want his new creation to look cooler than the old hand?

I hate the Batman/Spawn stories. Especially Frank Miller's. His Batman says Punk so much in it, god it just is an irritating read.

He does say punk alot doesn't he. I see alot of comparisons with this Batman and the one he wrote in All-Star. I finished the book and just thought about it and there are definate similarities.

I agree about Gotham by Gaslight. I just read it myself about six months ago and loved it.

I've never read Batman/Spawn and I don't ever plan to.

Did you read the chapter of The Search for Ray Palmer where they ended up in the Gotham By Gaslight universe. Brian Augustyn wrote that one too. It was a bit of a sneak peek to what happened after the 1989 book.

I wasn't even aware of a sequel. I thought that the Search For Ray Palmer was the first time it had been looked back into since the first book. Was Mignola on the art?

There isn't a problem as such getting the books here. It just takes a little longer. Especially if the book you want isn't from one of the big two. I can get a Marvel/DC book in no time but something like Queen & Country Definitive Edition Vol. 3 which was released last july took until two weeks ago to be tracked down by a book shop. A comic shop can get it in a couple of days but you pay over the odds for it because of the shipping.

Just finished reading a Wonder Woman one shot The Once & Future Story. Written by Trina Robbins and Art by Colleen Doran released in 1998. A really good thought provoking book. I can totally understand the reasoning behins the idea in that it advocates women reaching out for help if they are in abusive relationships and using Diana as the heroin here so women can relate is a good idea. A bit off the beaten path to what I usually read but worthwhile all the same.

Just read Daredevil #208/9 on a study break. I never knew before opening it that it was written by the great Harlan Ellison. Good stuff.

Read the first two original issues of Youngblood from Rob Liefeld (HUK!). It was horrible and nothing more than a product of the nineties. No wonder it was 25 cents each.
