Wait wizard actually making a best of that I agree with and don't have to shake my head at?

Are they finally realizing how much they've shot themselves in the foot and how much the industry thinks of them as a joke?

I don't know. Can't say I agree with any of the first three choices on that list. (But I haven't really agreed with anything Wizard has said for a long time).

Best writer should have been Ed Brubaker....hands down. That Ghost Rider stuff has been ridiculous. What Brubaker has done with Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Fist (I know his involvement was minimal but look what happened after he left) and Criminal. Wolverine...Ghost Rider.....not realy impressing me a whole lot.

Best artist.....Paul Pelletier. Leinel Yu? Really???Back when the "Elektra" Skrull was killed in New Avengers I couldn't even tell it was a Skrull for Pete's Sake! I had to read an interview with Bendis to clarify the matter.

Best book.............Action Comics. That one didn't make anybody shake their head besides me?

Everything else I either agree with or just don't know enough about to comment.

I will comment about that new JLA line up on the cover of Wizard magazine.

I'm so glad I don't read D.C books anymore.

*sigh* G don't be so negative man. Seriously I have to correct on a few things here.

I agree with the Ed brubaker choice completely, Cap was a work of art for the last year and a half.

Yu though, I really have to give it to him, this is the work of his career right now on secret invasion. It's just beautiful.

And I just jumped on to action comics right before the braniac arc...it's actually a really strong book.

Oh and that's the line up for Justice League wrote by James Robinson of starman fame, if you don't love that line up your not a fan of fun comics. wink.gif And it will be better then the horrible Justice League of America book by Mcduffie, hell when it finally gets solicited unless mcduffie gets better, I'm replacing it with James book.

I didn't think I came across as negative...but if I did...I apologize. Last thing I want to do is to have people read my stuff here....and think of it as nothing more than a bunch of moaning and groaning.

As far as the art catergory goes...this whole post has actually pulled me out of a mind set I try very hard to stay in and that's I don't really like to label creators , books....etc....as best and worse. Good and bad.

Anybody sitting down to write, draw, ink, letter....commiting time, money, and energy into a passion of love shouldn't be short changed by these type of labels.

I try not to look at things in a that's good and that's bad frame of mind. It's just different. That writer is different from that writer and so on ....and different things appeal to everybody...differently.

Feel the love. wink.gif

*shrugs* To me bad storytelling is bad storytelling. I respect mcduffie and I know how good his work can be (JLU, Fantastic Four and Beyond)

We have yet to see that on anything he's wrote for DC and that bothers me a lot.

I posted my best/worst of 2008 at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1...008.html?cat=38 after I was asked by a friend who runs a small community newspaper to write one up.

I actually like Russ' list better than Wizard's....but then again, I may be slightly biased biggrin.gif

Bias or not...I have to agree I like Russell's look at the year in comics better as well. I'm glad he gave Perhapanauts some props. That's a great book and deserves all the word of mouth it can generate (don't forget to throw Todd and Craig a bone over at that other site!)

I was going to list that book as well....but it ...in my opinion....would have been book #6 and I wanted to kinda focus on a "top five" vibe. No matter where you place it.....it was a definite highlight for the year of 2008 and hopefully we can say the
same this time next year as 2009 comes to a close!!! wink.gif

Another hight quality book I didn't list and was very good. Secret Invasion: The Inhumans

I think Proof also deserves a lot of credit for the last year. Not only has it stayed on time shipping for it's full first year but Alex has spent a lot of time with the fanbase, giving back and responding to everyone.

It's a unique and fun book.

And I'll second SI: Inhumans, that was a surprise for me. Can't wait for War of Kings.
