Why are 11 x 17 Tabloid Scanners so darn expensive?
I'll admit that I make minimum wage, and this is a bit too expensive for me. Yet I am tired of having to scan things in pieces, or halves just to get large art scanned. If anyone knows a place to get one for under $200 used, or new, let me know. Thanks. We can use this thread to discuss scanning techniques I guess. -------------------- |

I actually got this link from the old message board. I don't own one personally, but my work bought one and the thing works pretty good.

I need to get myself one, but I really don't want to spare any expense, especially if I can batch scan things like slides, negatives and magazine pages. http://www.anthonyhochrein.com help me conquer the world one sleepy artist that needs a caffiene fix at a time!! http://www.cafepress.com/ahochrein -------------------- |

I need to pick up that Mustek A3 scanner, but I'd hate to waste my current HP one which works well, but it's just too small.

I bought mine on ebay a couple years ago. Check there, they are usually fairly cheap. I also bought a wide carriage printer for printing my own blue line pages. It was new and cost around 1,300. Both are a great tool to have.

I ended up buying that A3 Scanexpress scanner, works well considering it wasn't made for a Windows Vista Machine.

I think that you may have purchased the older one, dude. Here's the recent version from Amazon. I purchased it last summer:http://www.amazon.com/Mustek-Express-A3-US...36126458&sr=8-1. It works with Vista.

I found a work around. I just re-named the system in the registry. It works great now. Just wish I knew how to keep that glass clean. No matter what I use, or how I clean it, the glass always smudges. Oh well it isn't effecting the scans yet.

And just as we're getting "used to" (or not) VISTA, Microsoft comes out with YET ANOTHER version of Windows! I wonder how much of my software WON'T work on this version? How's that for glass half empty thinking?

Yeah they made that final marketing push on Vista... not that it really worked on me, but I just NEEDED a new computer and the XP was no longer an option at Dell.... so once again I feel like a moron that bought the last car off the assembly line right before they stopped production of the line.

Just squeeze the lemon juice into the eyes of your enemies,
this way it won't be a total loss. ... Kidding. I wish they'd solve ALL the problems with their current OS before making a new one.. one also loaded with unsolved problems of it's own. |

I'm not sure it's 100% accurate so I'll just say I'm paraphrasing Paul Rudd's character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall
When life gives you lemons you just gotta say $%*# those lemons and bail! Seriously though it's all about marketing as opposed to function. Vista will never out run it's stigma and Microsoft is more of a stock commodity than it is a service industry. -------------------- Jake Sullivan

Well, coming from a guy who's worked through all of the lemony versions of Windows (3.1, 95, and 98- remember all of those shutdown issues, guys? I DO!!!) After using it on my newest laptop (and rejecting all of those Mac-ish animations because I just wanted the functions) I kind of eased into the animations and what not when I realized my system was not going to crash because of memory overload. So this computer's served me pretty well, even with Vista- and I like the built in features of each new generation of Windows. Particularly this one. I just didn't welcome the fact that a few of my old programs and hardware wouldn't work on it. Corel Painter 9,for example.

Heh heh...I'm still using photoshop 5.5, I was super worried that it wasn't going to work on Vista either, I'm just too cheap to pony up the money for a newer version since used copies still bring at least 250.oo or more.
