When I have time I'll post a review of the two I have, and maybe a photo or two.

I have the complete set and they are all very exstensive! full video tutorials. I run them on my computer and then pause them long enough to complete each step then I continue to the next one. They cost me like 120 a couple years ago at san diego con, so 80 is a steal. I have been trying to get ahold of someone who I think I lent them to but no reply yet. All I have in my possesion is the inking disk.

Can anyone give me a review of these CD's? Do they give you a step by step for those of not really Photoshop saavy? Are they worth the money? Since I've moved onto inking I think the next step will be coloring and eventually lettering.

I am so sorry to hear that. On a side note to the cds, I should have bought the painting superbabes one. The basic coloring is well, basic, the Spawn one had a great line art piece included. The Dangergirls line art... not so great. |

Guys, oh GUUYYYSSSSSSSSSSSS... go over right now to http://www.digitalarttutorials.com
because they are giving away 2 FREE tutorials as a DOWNLOAD! This more than makes up for the unavailability of the set that I ordered (which is not available anymore from BLP, I think thanks to Diamond). So, If we order 2 disks (downloading's cheaper, plus no shipping and handling) that equals... let's seee... 2...plus 2... equals FOUR! Ha ha ha... If its' for free it's for me... slap me somebody... I'm delirious! -------------------- |

Man - MPAA really has got you guys stateside scared huh?
I DL torrents of these from Korea (just like the natives) - copywrite 'law' is more of a suggestion in asia (cept Japan). However - I do purchase anything I download and find useful. ....oh and by downloading torrents - I mean officialy: 'I don't do it! That would be wrong! I prefer to line the pockets of producers and publishers who don't pass on the profits to the creators.' NOTE: No offence ment to you Bill - you'r not on of the typical publisher guys I am refering to. Besides, I PAY for my copy of Blood N Roses - and Sketch - and love em both. You and Hickey rock! I support the 'lil guy' in the art industry! FREEDOM! YEAH! (Argh - I need to sleep! Darn drugs!) -------------------- |

Which is why our prices just keep on getting higher and higher, huh? If there were some way of bootlegging comic books, it would be done. I'm getting tired of being offered crap copies of beautiful Pixar movies for 5.00, which just goes to pay for some gangster smuggling someone here. Sorry, Psychomud, even though I CAN get something illegally, doesn't mean that I should.

That being said, I'm PURCHASING and DOWNLOADING 4 other tutorials, since I love the two I got for free, and the people producing DIGITAL ART TUTORIALS deserve their payday, especially Mr. Haberlin.

I know - I agree with you flairbrusher - I buy my stuff too.
But when it comes to movies or music or software - SOMETIMES (not all the time) I will preview it via a download. THEN I purchase. Perfect example is the adobe series of software - the gimped free trials they often offer don't even come close to the full package. HOWEVER, its risky buying $300 copy of Photoshop just to find out it may or may not be 'the right fit' on how it would fit one's digital needs. So, when I fin a tool I like - I buy it. It's much much much safer to have a legal copy on my home PC then a cracked one (for updates and what not). So thats what I do. You are right they are MEGA expensive and pirating does NOT help lower the cost! It adds to it (but it isn't the SOLE reason for the rise in cost). I just like to 'try before I buy' as to make the best choices for what I am comfortable with. ALSO - very specific sotware (in english) here in Korea, is HARD to find. So I am stuck in a way - SOMETIMES. It's not a resonable justification for downloading crack software - but in Korea there is almost no demand for english version art applications - so I either have to take a leap of faith and order online - or try it out before buying. Having sad that - onto comics: There is a HUGE underground wave for downloading comics - and the industry will have to face it and change how they do business SOON. I have seen and read 'digital copies' of the comics - but I hate them. I prefer to take a book, hold it in my hands, and enjoy it where ever and whenever I want instead of being tied to my PC to read. So I just order graphic novels like crazy after the storylines finish! Hahaah! Luckily, many of the big publishers are considering 'digital subscriptions'. This would be SMART alternative route to go to address the readers who don't mind reading books on their computer screens. But it would have to be CHEAP - and the industry would have to 'steam' the comic to you like a video - so you can't save it on your PC. If the industry does this - they can go back to charging a QUARTER an issue - which most eople would pay gladly - the at the end of the slideshow - give you the option to buy the hardcopy. It would save paper, increase readership, and open more doors to readers who where 'considering trying out a title' but didnt know if they would like it. I'll risk a quarter to try a book I have never read before. Now multiply that by MILLIONS of potential subscribers and the comics industry would make a FORTUNE! They could up their advertising rates due to being able to PROOVE they were reaching a large audience too! But for such an idea to happen - the big companies (or distributers) will have to take th initial step. When they do (I beleave they WILL smeday) - it will allow more SMALL PRESS comics a pathway to make money (instead of offering it for free like soo many small press site have to do to geerate readship). Lastly about piracy - it's never going to end. Most NATIONS do not enforce copywrite on products originating from foreign businessess! Seriously! So even if you eliminate pircy in the states - the companies still lose out due to other nations not enforcing copywrite laws. I could go downtown RIGHT NOW and by a $5 copy of the Transformers movie - I don't even have to download it from the net! Companies will never be able to protect their properties EVER AGAIN! The panoras box is open. Instead they have to focus on tighter security measures to limit unauthorized distrobution. Don't go after the criminals - its a waste of time - make it so it can't be reproduced. Thats just my 2 cents. This is a touchy subject - sorry if I offended anyone. Ultimately, I'm of the type who likes to spend my money wisely - and I DO - if I ***USE*** a product. -------------------- |

Flair... with the downloads onto the computers how big are the files? I mean a free two and a half hour tutorial sounds great, but if it's going to cripple my computer to download it I'm not sure I'd want to.

What's your internet connection speed? They run 340mb-550 mb in size. I was able to download these within about 15 to 20 minutes. Pretty much, all afternoon I was downloading the 6 tutorials I wound up with, and just got finished archiving them on CDs and DVD's. They are all well worth it, as you're pretty much observing a sample of what Brian's habits are while working. I've already learned several Corel Painter shortcuts that I probably never would have picked up on my own, and that's from one of the freebies. I have a lot of studying to do.

I have DSL and I'm not worried about the time downloading, but one guy I know at work does the downloading of the movies and I got the impression that he only had room for one movie on his computer at a time. My computer isn't equipped with a DVD burner so they would have to remain there.
Maybe I'll see about having a friend of mine do it... I think he has a DVD burner. -------------------- Jake Sullivan

They're CDs. do you have a CD burner? You don't even need to burn them to a CD since you can open up the videos straight from whatever folder you've downloaded them to. I just burned each individual lesson to a CD (which fits only one lesson, anyway), and archived them all onto a 4 gig DVD for storage. The Cd's play on any computer. Can't live without a CD burner at least if your a graphic artist.
BTW, what is your hard drive capacity? At 80n gigs, I have more than enough space to keep my current artwork stored. It's not like I'm creating sequences of high resolution moving images on my computer. -------------------- |

sigh...
I don't know why this kind of thing always happens to me. I tried downloading one, but my computer informed me that there was something wrong with the file. Guess I'll give it another shot and then contact the site and ask what could be the matter. -------------------- Jake Sullivan
