Sketch Magazine/SkyStorm Studios Art Contest: Blood & Roses Options

Hey everyone... I waited till the last minute to post my entry and I'm really not totally satisfied with the final product but time was not permitting any more tweaking.





Thanks everyone...and thanks Bill for giving us a day to tweak our scans.

Oof. I also ran into the last minute. (blew my week working on a mini comic for the PDX Zine fest).
um. I'm not proud (rushed pencils. and i'm more used to using the wacom to start in the inking phase).
But I was super eager to take part in this one, if only for feedbacks on layout.

p.s. scanning is harder than i thought. yeek.
p.p.s. heh. apparently i wasn't the only person to think "how is Chris firing a weapon? isn't she known for the sword?"

Thanks Bill. I think I'm going to go with what I already scanned, though, as I haven't been able to improve on that seam-area where I joined the pics together . (I definitely see a better/bigger scanner in my near-future!)

Thanks also to Bryan for the critique. I appreciate you taking the time to give me valuable feedback like that. I'm definitely going to take a look at better use of my negative-space in the future and making my small-figures more dynamic !

I just wanted to say great job to everyone who participated....this is a great opportunity to get some feedback from some pros in the industry to further our skills. Totally awesome..heh heh

Well....looks like the feedback is pouring in and so far its left me with a lot to think about. I can see why only a select few are in the biz...I have a real problem with varying the shots and seem to draw them only on a select few angles. I'm gonna have to work on that. Can't wait to see what will be said next.

I just saw the most recent message from Bill in the Judge's critique/voting thread. Many thanks to Bill and all the Judges who participated! I feel as if I really learned a TON from the various critiques and I will try to take all of them to heart. Sometimes it can be hard to get an honest opinion from a friend or family member, most of the people I show my drawings to always say things like "that's cool" or "neat", but I never quite know if they mean it, or if they are just trying to not hurt my feelings! So it was really nice to get an honest assessment of my sequential work. I have quite a bit of work to do to bring my drawing up to a level that even I am going to be happy with, and these critiques were priceless for helping me see where I need to work the most!
Good job to WarrenEBB, vermin and spikey! I really liked the different way that we all tried to interpret Bill's script and bring his written-vision onto the illustrated-page. I look forward to the next contest.

i certainly had a lot of fun participating and learnt a huge amount from the crits and i hope everyone else did too. Looking forward to the next comp when we can all show off what we've learnt and improved on!
