Got to talking with Scott Simmons and Brant Fowler about their book "Wannabez" (pronounced Wanna-bees) not too long ago and they we talking about doing the #0 issue in full color and including it in a TB. I did grayscales for it and they were interested in finding out how hard it would be to colorize the grays. I played around with it for about five minutes before I said "Screw this! I'm just going to recolor the pages." It's been over 2 1/2 years since I did the grayscales, and I can make it look so much better if I start from scratch. So here is the first page of the 12 page issue.

Wannabez is a story about a bunch of people who through a series of coincidences believe they have been given super-powers from a meteor that stuck the earth. There is a ton of humor, in jokes, and nods to comic and sci-fi related properties. I colored this page as a night scene before Scott e-mailed me and told me that it should be a day time scene instead, so I'm stumbling out of the gates in true Wannabez fashion. LOL

That looks awesome! Even if it's not supposed to be a night scene. smile.gif I'm sure you can fix it up for daylight, but I do love the glow from the meteor and the lights on the theater.

This is the cover for the #0 issue of Wannabez. I originally colored this cover 3 years ago and wanted to give it an update while I was coloring the greyscaled interior pages.

C&C's always appreciated.

And for comparison's sake, here are the two versions side by side. I don't do it a whole lot, but I can definitely see the advantage to returning to an image that you've already colored and work it again.

Love to hear everyone's thoughts.

Jonathon Glapion was nice enough to send me a few pages to color up for my portfolio, and I'm finally able to get around to them. Sheesh. Anyway, I'd really appreciate any feedback you may have. Positive or negative. Anything that will help. smile.gif

Here are a couple covers I colored for Sniper and Rook that debuted at CCC last weekend. Too late to make any changes for print, but I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have on what I can work on in the future.

I went back and made some adjustments to a couple of pieces and thought I'd share them before I post up some new stuff.

Pencils by Ben Jones
Inks by Mikey

I made some changes to this based off of the feedback I received. The "light bulb" look seemed to be what attracted the wrong kind of attention the most, so I worked on that a bit further. I ended up going a little more toward monochromatic on Batman this time around as well.

Thoughts?

Now, on to the new stuff!!!!

This is going to be the cover to Pinpoint #3.

C&C always appreciated.

Pencils by Edson Alves

These are a couple of sample pages I did to see how my colors would work with the artists' pencils. The first is from a book called I Was A Teenage Vigilante and the second is a book called We Can Never Go Home Again.

C&C's always welcome.

Started working on some sketch cards recently. I was getting a little frustrated drawing larger pics for some reason, so I decided to go small. smile.gif Also broke out my copic makers for the first time, which was fun. Still have a lot to learn using those. The last one was done for my daughter's 12th birthday a few days ago. I admit that it looks very little like her, but she loved it anyway. :<3:

If that drawing looks anything like her, she's pretty, and you should be rightfully proud.

Cliff Robertson as Superman? Interesting. And the Flash is dynamic.

I've already made up my mind to cripple the first boy that comes to the house to date her so that he can take the message back to all of the others. mad.gif

Had to go look up who Cliff Robertson was. LOL Not sure I see it, but he would have made a good one back in the day.

You're nicer than my brother. He told his daughter when she was four that the first boy that came over to ask her for a date was going to be shot and left on the porch to bleed.

Ha ha! I was talking with my daughter last night and mentioned that I would be making an example out of the first boy she brought home. She said she would warn the boy that I was going to "lecture" him. Oh the naivete of youth....... laugh.gif

I just ended a two week coloring vacation by doing a test page for Hi-Fi (which I'm sure I can't show) and had to change up the way I was working to fit in with the way the studio works. I really liked the results, so I applied it to these character sheets for another client of mine. It's a cut and brush approach, which isn't something I had done before. I'm pleased with the results, but I turn it over to you guys to give me a fresh set of eyes.

I've been kind of dragging in getting some practice in. Family visiting, car buying, car selling, and now I'm getting ready for Thanksgiving. Where is that 25th hour???? I'm going to try to bang out a couple others before then, but for sure after Thanksgiving, I'm going to be hitting things hard.

Done for practice/portfolio. Comments and crits are encouraged.

I joined Hi-Fi Studios at the tail end of October and some of the pages I've worked are finally coming out, so I can finally show some of it. WOOHOO!!!!

My first assignment was for two pages of Undertaker:Timequake for Titan Publishing. This was a great way to get my Hi-Fi run started off. I grew up a wrestling fan, and even though I don't watch it any longer, I'll always have a place for it. I remember Taker when he first got his start as Mean Mark Callous in the early WCW days. Who knew he would grow to be one of the biggest names in the business. I was in Toys R Us (of all places) looking for some stuff for my son when I saw the issue in their comic section, so I immediately picked it up. smile.gif

Art is by Tom Nguyen

Angel #40 just hit the stands, so please go check it out.

Art by Jason Armstrong

I've got a lot more coming that I still have to sit on, but as soon as I can I'll let you guys in on it. Got some True Blood on the way, a little Young Jack Sparrow, as well as my first foray into DC Comics!

I love working independent titles, and I'll probably never close the door on it, but there is also something really cool about telling someone you worked on a certain title or character and not have to explain to them what it is. LOL
