![]() The first all original Kiss c.d released since 1998's Psycho Circus and the first ever to feature original music by the current line up which features guitarist Tommy Thayer (formerly of Black-n-Blue) and Eric Singer (Alice Cooper, Lita Ford, Black Sabbath, and Badlands) hit the stores today. Well I guess I should say it hit THE store as this c.d is only available at Wal-Mart. Kiss has followed both the "Boss" Bruce Springsteen and Aussie hard rockers AC/DC in entering exclusive deals with the chain store giant. For $12.00 you get not only eleven new tracks, but a disc of fifteen "Klassics" and a dvd of a live performance of the band in South America. Sounds like a sweet deal to me and one that I couldn't pass up. As for the c.d itself....I'm a Kiss fan and always wil be and if you're a Kiss fan as well...you pretty much know what you're going to get. Paul and Gene has went on the record saying that they were trying to recapture that vintage Kiss sound from the 70's. Personally...I have EVERYTHING this band ever recorded including a copy of the Wicked Lester demo before they became Kiss and I have to say they missed the mark just a little. But not much. When people think of classic 70's Kiss most think of Destroyer, Rock-n-Roll Over or possibly Love Gun. Sonic Boom sounds a lot like what a Kiss lp would have sounded like if they released one between Love Gun and Dynasty. I love the first track, Modern Day Delilah and to be quite honset I would have bought the best of compilation that came with the c.d (the overall "best of" and pefect one disc sampling of the band's musical history) if this was a only new track added to the re-released material and would have been very happy with it. Luckily I got a lot more. After the first track...the next few songs didn't really click with me. Hints of Animalize and Asylum in Gene's lyrics....I've tried hard to forget some of his lyrics from that time period. But everything from Track #7 to Track #11 I really like especially All For The Glory featuring Eric Singer on vocals, Danger Us which reminded me a little of of a song that could have been on Creatures of the Night, I'm An Animal...sounding a little like Almost Human from Love Gun, When Lightning Stikes with Thayer on vocals and the last track Say Yeah. Overall I'm glad I bought it and tip my hat to these guys for keeping the Kiss Experience going strong for 35 years! Can't wait to get a chance to watch the d.v.d seeing how they never released any live footage of the band with this line up and in make up in the Kissology d.v.d box sets....I now feel my video Kisstory is complete! Rock On! I want to be President. -------------------- "Reality is only for those who lack imagination" don't know who first said that....but it works for me!

Rich Walden...the best damn drummer I ever worked with (in the bands Misled and Project X) chimes in on the Sonic Boom c.d.
Here is my take on it. Being a KISS fan as child growing up was fucking killer. Children really got it, the show , the make -up, the chorus eighteen times in one song! They were the first band to be completely commercial from shirt's, hat's, jackets, beach towels, to COMIC BOOKS!!!! My room was nothing but KISS posters, seriously anyone who knows me will tell you: COVERED! It was a great time to be a kid. With that being said here is my take track by track. 1) Sounds like NEW KISS should sound! 2) Same as above 3) Paul Stanley is in this band isn't he? 4) Gene Simmons is in this band isn't he? 5) Like three genre's of KISS songs fucked and had a Retard. 6) Christine Sixteen 7) All for one! All about the money! (Kiss Filler) ( One on every album) 8) Sounds like NEW KISS should sound! 9) Whatcha Doin? meets Larger Than Life!!! 10) Sounds like it was written by Ace and sung by Peter. 11) Was played as background music on Sports Center "Highlight Reel" on 10/8/09 So after laying it out, I think, and remember this a "STONER REVIEW" 4SHO!!!! I think this album really captured some vintage vibe on some tracks especially Tommy's guitar sound, sounds like fuckin Ace! Even the solo's ( all though they are allot cleaner than Ace's) There are some tracks they should have left off, but for a couple of old bastards (Gene 60 and Paul @ 57) not to shabby. The KISS KLASSICS is a different deal all together. No Ace or Peter songs on the KLASSICS? And did they actually rerecord those songs? Get back to me. The DVD. If I was at that concert in Buenos Aires I'd want my fucking money back! They only played six songs!!!!!!! So there you have it a STONER REVIEW (provided by Rich Walden) -------------------- "Reality is only for those who lack imagination" don't know who first said that....but it works for me!

So there you have it a STONER REVIEW (provided by Rich Walden) NOW I GOTTA do my opinions of the disc track for track. #1-Agree with you 100% #2-Not a big fan of this track, does get stuck in my head though. #3-Man the verse cadence to this song sounds way too much like "Nothing But A Good Time" by Poison. Not liking this very much. #4-Another one I'm not really into. I like lyrics...hate the lyrics to this. Reminds me lyrically of Burn Bitch Burn from Animalize and I don't like to be reminded of Burn Bitch Burn from Animalize. #5-WTF? Yep...Kiss in-bred retard track. #6-Is this a leftover from Gene Simmons' Asshole solo c.d? #7-Kinda liking All For the Money...I mean All For the Glory. There is elements in the music structure that reminds me of Dirty Women by Black Sabbath. #8-Oh yeah! Liking this. #9-Like this too...I knew Simmons could still write good lyrics! #10-Love this...great song. #11-Everybody dogs this song. I kind of like it. Tommy Thayer rocks on every track! Kiss Klassics...man that is a different case. Tommy is very energetic on stage when he plays the old stuff. This re-recorded old material is just missing that energy. Works live but on the disc sounds flat. And Pauls vocals on this almost seem to drag. Sounds tired. Where's Shock Me and God of Thunder? D.V.D-I hope that show was free. Six songs...wow! For that many people? And all they really wanted to hear was Rock-n-Roll All Nite six times and they would have been happy. -------------------- "Reality is only for those who lack imagination" don't know who first said that....but it works for me!
