3rd Annual
SKETCH CARD BENEFIT AUCTION
AND GALLERY SHOW
FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
April 3rd, 2010

Proceeds will go to the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY.

Location: Comics 2 Games, 8470 US 42., Florence, KY 41042

As you will hear on tonight's Zone 4, I am issuing a challenge to everyone on this fine website to create at least ONE SKETCHCARD for the event. The cards are only 3 x 4, so surely everyone can create at least one. Find someone to collaborate with, but do one!! The original deadline for cards was March 1st but I have it on very good authority that as long as they are in by March 19th, they can still be in the auction.

For signup, cards and more information, go to Sketchcards@bluelinepro.com

John, The cards are not the standard 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 for sketch cards? I'm using my own stock.

They probably are. 3 x 4 is a guesstimation

Yes, they are 2.5 x 3.5, Anthony.

Those are the ones they send out.

Since I was bullied by the awesome might of John Wilson into drawing something for this event, I need to know what the rules for such a thing are. Anyone got any pointers? And what about materials? If I am going to subject my poor skills, I at least want them properly used so they can later be properly mocked (as they should be). Help a writer out fellas!

Let me echo C.K. - as a writer/artist but more writer, I've never done a sketch card but would like to contribute... any help?

Can I still get cards? Cancer is the most hated thing I can name. I know time has slipped by a little on this but I would like to participate again this year if it's not too late. Can someone post a link about how to request cards in the mail?

You can still get cards, just send the request to the email John listed.

And we'll also need folks bidding on the cards so be sure to get the word out!

What did Joihn do? Hit you over the head with MS WORD? laugh.gif I think anything that you can whip up is ok, just do your best, even if it's limited to sharpies on the cards. I made a mistake trying to get fancy by using acrylic on the cards, and they really buckled- I went the way of Copic markers for my submissions, though.

Thanks for the heads up on the size of the cards, guys- there are over sized cards that some card companies use as special editions. The standard for a sketch card is the 2 1/2 X 3 1/2. I was just being cautious! biggrin.gif

So quick question for all of you guys that have done this before. What do you use to ink and color your cards? I'm assuming it should be something acid free, I've got some fine tip pens that I think might working for the inking, but I'm going to go to Hobby Lobby tomorrow and see what I can find for coloring. So any ideas for me? I figure I can't send a black and white card... that just wouldn't feel right. lol

Sure, make me feel bad. smile.gif All I did last year were penciled cards, but really I don't think there's any limitation to the tools, though I could be mistaken. John or Bill would probably be able to answer that better than I.

lol, no shame in penciled cards... just figured it was more fitting for a colorist to actually submit a colored card. I think I'm going to look for markers of some sort. Guess I'll just have to see what they have. I messed around with watercolor in high school art so that could be fun. Just not sure how the cards would hold up to that.

and Lisa , I inked and I colored cards last year and just use acid free markers and pens, they turned out pretty good just try to control or lessen the bleed from the ink as much as possible, otherwise have fun
