As anybody who has ever listened to an episode of the RaynMan Power Hour podcast knows...I'm a huge Ed Brubaker fan....as is co-host Frank Raynor. I may have mentioned once or twice Ed Brubaker could do no wrong. Frank may have even echoed similar comments.

I should have remembered that Brubaker's work at D.C (Catwoman, G.C.P.D., and Batman) never really impressed me. The "Man Who Laughed" graphic novel was "okay", but other than that, Brubaker was no where near being one of my favorite writers that he is today based on his body of work at that other comic company.

When it was announced that Brubaker would be writing Captain America a few years ago I actually cringed. Kirkman had just finished the best Cap run in years and I was afraid that Brubaker was not going to be the writer Cap needed to keep that momentum going. Lukewarm issues of Catwoman haunted me. I thought about not buying Captain America #1 (yet another re-launch that was later re-numbered).....but it was Captain America. I picked it up.

And I loved it.

I had a hard time believing this was the same writer....and his work only got better....on Cap, X-Men, Iron Fist, Daredevil....and the hits kept on coming....Criminal, Incognito (which was my least favorite but still good and still better than anything he did at....that other comic company)

So that brings me to yesterday. I was in the video store and ran across a copy of "Ed Brubaker's Angel of Death" It was only a dollar to rent it and guess what...I had a dollar. I have heard Brubaker did this film a few years ago and I had forgotten about it...but I picked it up without a second thought. It was only a dollar...and it was Brubaker. What could possibly go wrong?

Everything. I want my dollar back. I could have bought another lottery ticket, four more rolls of toilet paper, or something. Anything would have been better than spending it on that video.

I would say that it was the worse movie I ever watched, but I can't. Because I couldn't bring myself to watch more than the first twenty minutes of the film. I would say the movie was so bad because of the low budget cast...or the bad acting. But I can't. The story was just terrible.

Plus they framed certain scenes to make it "feel" like a comic book.

It didn't work.

The movie actually made me ill. Honest. After I quickly ejected it from the d.v.d player I felt sick to my stomach. Thankfully the feeling went away in about twenty minutes, about the same amount of time I tormented myself by watching Angel of Death. Of course the fact that my wife and I had just finished watching a "real movie" prior to the failed attempt to watch this train wreck (that movie being Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson) may have caused us to dislike this film even more, but truthfully....this thing still was just plain dreadful. No matter what else you would have watched before trying in vain to watch it. It made the 1970's made for television Dr. Strange film seem like an Emmy award winner.

Apparently Brubaker is not a master at everything he touches after all.

So if you ever see this video at your local video store....

....avoid it at all costs.

Even if it is just a dollar.

I might have to watch this. Lol I like Zoe, she was great is Deathproof and since your cult like love of Brubaker isn't at the throne for this lol jk man, I've heard it was good for people who like indy films, but the only people I know who watched are indy lovers, and I am not one of those people.

I alos don't think Ed can do no wrong though, I get really annoyed at the guy and every since I talked to him I've gone from thinking i's just a comic to "Crap what's he trying to push today?"

So how does that make Bill wrong? If I had a dollar for every time I disagreed with some bonehead reviewer I'd be a rich man right now.

I took no offense in the comment because I know two things to be the truth.

1. I am never wrong.
2. I've been crazy for years and have the papers to prove it.

And if ANYBODY can say this film has any merit.....they can borrow my jacket with the sleeves that tie in the back.

This movie has merit. Having not seen one single second of it, but having been subjected to numerous seasons of "America's Next Top Model" by my wife, I will take my chances and step out and say that any movie has a better chance to be better than a reality show that at one point has Tyra Banks in some kind of silver-ish robot disco outfit along with her two stylishly over the top flaming assistant's calling herself the "Tyrabot" and claiming to have come from the future. That scene has to be on you tube, you can watch it and decide for yourself G-man!!

<object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-M1SE2FBfy0&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-M1SE2FBfy0&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>

That's the link. At about the 5:30 Tyra makes her horrible debut. Check it out if you dare!!

You do realize it is just a matter of time before someone says "Hey! I like that show!!!!" or "At least she wasn't acting like she was a Zombie."

Sorry, Bill, but I'm the avenging angel of Brubaker's ANGEL OF DEATH. You obviously did NOT watch this on internet where it was serialized and a new clip would be posted every day. From the first scene to the last, I LOVED THIS THING. It was mean, nasty and totally out there. Zoe was amazing, the action is wall to wall and how many times have you seen the hero get a knife shoved into their skull??
It is a riot!!! And I'm thrilled to hear its on DVD. I have got to pick this up and watch it again. Thanks for the shout out, pal.

The knife through the skull thing was the part when I said "that's it...I've had enough." But hey...if you liked it , that's cool. Guess that makes both crazy.
