It's not too often I get to really go outside the box and do something special with my lettering. But sometimes, I get the opportunity and it makes the process so much more fun.

Such was the case with this week's Spy6Teen page. The script called for an instant message chat, so instead of going with standard captions I constructed a full IM chat window from scratch.

You can view version 1 of the page here: http://www.spy6teen.com/?p=304

As mentioned in the notes on that page, I created two versions of the page. The second version only had the full chat window in the first panel, then a smaller, similarly colored box, but without all the frills in the subsequent panels. Tim decided to run the full boxes because he thought they looked cool.

I'm pretty proud of how they turned out as I did everything from scratch, from the hand in panel 1, to the emoticon and minimize, maximize buttons, etc. AIM users will certainly recognize the general layout as well.

Stuff like this is why lettering's fun at times!

I'm with Cary! Fantastic work Brant, this/these are amazing. That must have been a pain in the behind to create but so very much worth it. It sure pays off!

Thanks, guys! And lo and behold, I did a post-recording of the process. You can read the details here:

This isn't technically lettering, but it's on a page I lettered, so I thought I'd share it here instead of making an entirely new thread for it.

The latest page of Spy6Teen, a webcomic I letter and Lisa colors, is live now: http://www.spy6teen.com/?p=330

In the notes you'll see something cool from me. I have officially taken over flatting Spy6Teen for Lisa as of last week's page, and in the notes there's a comparison showing the flats to Lisa's final colors of last week's page. I thought it was really cool of Tim to share that.

In the post above you can see a video of the IM chat and the cover from last week I did up as well.
