My good friend and fellow pulp enthusiast, Tommy Hancock, is putting on a whopping new pulp convention, PULP ARK in his home town of Batesville, Arkansas this April. It promises to be a stellar, all pulp blowout. I'll be there along with my partner Rob Davis representing our Airship 27 pulp outfit.
Well, Tommy, seeing the success we had started with the Yahoo Pulp Factory Awards, decided it would be cool if the con had its own awards and so he created the Pulp Ark Awards which will be given out at the con. He put the word out about a month ago asking for all pulp fans to send him nominations in ten categories and this he publicly released the final ballot roster. I was first thrilled to see so many of our titles and creators made the final ballot and I wish them all much luck. But then I was surprised to discover I was personally nominated for three categories. Best Pulp Related Comic - The Boston Bombers Best Author - Yeah, me. Go figure. Best Pulp Revival - Captain Hazzard -Citadel of Fear by me and Martin Powell. Again, a truly humbling experience. Truth is, as flattering as these three nods are, the one that means the most to me is for The Boston Bombers. A project where I was able to combine my love of both comics and pulps in one. It's one of those projects that is truly near and dear to me. Even getting this nod was a real joy.
