
Vanth Dreadstar, A Look Back...
Born in the Milky Way, Vanth Dreadstar found himself able to access great power but was tricked into destroying his own galaxy. Following the tragedy, he found himself in another galaxy where his adventures quickly continued. Living life as a wanderer and freedom fighter with friends such as Skeev, Oedi, Willow, Zyzygy Darklock and others, Vanth worked to overthrow the evil of Lord Papal and the Nexus.
Dreadstar first appeared in "Metamorphosis Odyssey", a story which ran in the first eight issues of Marvel Comics Epic Illustrated. Eclipse comics then published a graphic novel, The Price, that was later reprinted by Epic as the one and only Dreadstar Annual. Marvel's Epic Comics imprint then published a Dreadstar title which ran bi-monthly until #26 when First Comics obtained the rights. First published the series from issue #27 to it's conclusion at issue #64. Later Epic reprinted issues #1-6 under the title "Dreadstar and Company". Marvel also published a Dreadstar Graphic Novel. Some years later Malibu / Bravura published a six issue Dreadstar mini-series continuing the overall story.
The Metamorphosis Odyssey and Dreadstar #1-30 focused on the story of the war against the High Papal and his church of super-powered villainy. Dreadstar 31-40, set after the victory against the Papal, showed how Dreadstar and Company came to rule the Galaxy. After issue 40, Jim Starlin, Dreadstar's creator left the series. In Dreadstar #41-64, Dreadstar escaped to yet a new galaxy with Peter David coming on board taking on the primary writing duties for the title. The Malibu / Bravura mini-series was set about 20 years after the end of the original storyline and stared the daughter of Dreadstar. She eventually gathers the old company to start new adventures and makes a few discoveries along the way.
