David Lapham, whose creator-owned series Stray Bullets has made him a cult icon in contemporary comics, has brought his A-game to Vertigo with the new ongoing series Young Liars. Blending action, drama, sex and a rock-and-roll sensibility, the book has been compelling and well-done for its first three issues.
Lapham, a market-savvy creator, has offered readers who have bought the first couple of issues, an opportunity to mail copies of Young Liars into him, which he'll sign and return, in a bid to raise sales on the title.
The third issue of the series, released this week, answers a few of the initial questions raised in the crazy, manic first two issues--but not nearly all of them, as Lapham has suggested that, like Stray Bullets, the structure and the content will confound and confuse readers at every turn.
