Hot Shot of the Week

by Russell Burlingame

DC Universe: Last Will and Testament

One of the principal complaints about Brad Meltzer's largely well-received run on "Justice League of America" is that, in spite of having a timeline for departure laid out from the moment he took on the title, there were plot threads left dangling that follow-up writer Dwayne McDuffie still hasn't handled.  One such story element is the longstanding grudge between Geo-Force and Deathstroke, which has been hanging in the air ever since the death of Geo-Force's sister Terra in the 1980s "New Teen Titans" series.  More than anything else, "DC Universe: Last Will and Testament" is a resolution of this story--and a fairly satisfying one at that.  In the midst of Event Madness at both major publishers and a main story in "Final Crisis" that seems just about impossible to understand, "Last Will and Testament" stands as a beacon of character-driven storytelling, shining for the masses to snatch up and enjoy since father-and-son team Joe and Adam Kubert make it look really enticing on the shelf.
