We got a note from someone who was on set this week while they shot test footage of an actor in a huge rubber suit for The Blob. The interesting part is that they made the suit to look like The Blob was about 800lbs, but producers want to make him bigger, something like 1200lbs. I did some research (as I am not too familiar with The Blob's history) and I found that he was around 500lbs. originally. - SuperHeroHype, 2/16/08 [link]
When it was first announced that Liev Schrieber had signed on to star in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, it was reported that Schrieber would be playing Stryker. Later we learned that Schrieber would in fact be starring as Sabretooth (awesome casting BTW) leaving a vacancy in the role of Young William Stryker that has yet to be filled. - ComicBookMoive, 2/15/08 [link]
The actor promised that X-Men fans' favorite anti-hero wouldn't be getting any kinder or gentler in the prequel -- just the opposite, in fact: "I know it seems odd given, you know, the guy is already half animal. But with all the success of the X-Men, you feel the pressure to keep pushing it further." - RottenTomatoes, 2/15/08 [link]
Benioff knew he was writing for fans of the comics, though, and was sure to do his research. "I grew up a big Wolverine fan. I've been reading comic books since I was a little kid, and Wolverine was always my favorite comic book hero. I consider myself just as much of a fan as anyone else. I'm hopeful that that movie will make the fans happy." - Rotten Tomatoes, 12/28/07 [link]
Just last week, 20th Century Fox issued an announcement that the studio was laying claim to May 1, 2009, as the release date for its big-budget sci-fi spinoff "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" starring Hugh Jackman. This was just days after it issued an urgent SOS to the major agencies looking for a quick rewrite person. - LA Times, 10/23/07 [link]
One new mutant who seems destined for a big-screen appearance is Gambit, a reformed thief who hails from New Orleans and speaks with a thick Cajun drawl. His special powers include making inanimate objects explode at will, charging playing cards with kinetic energy and hurling them as deadly weapons, and superior martial-arts abilities. - E Online, 10/18/07 [link]
20th Century Fox has set a May 1, 2009 release date for Hugh Jackman starrer X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which director Gavin Hood (Rendition, Tsotsi) begins shooting later this year. David Benioff wrote the script. - Silver Bullet Comics, 10/18/07 [link]
Filming for the Wolverine movie is reportedly due to get underway in November in Sydney. The Xverse reports that director Gavin Hood and actor Hugh Jackman are currently at the preparation stage for the film. - Digital Spy, 9/11/07 [link]
Apparently, some more mutants may be appearing in the film then previously thought. Good news for fans, while this is a spin-off from the X-Men films that will feature Logan aka Wolverine, 20th Century Fox is planning to debut some of the most beloved mutants from the X-Universe in the film. I can’t divulge which mutant will make his/her big screen debut but all I will say that it’s my favorite mutant ever, enough said for now. Casting for the fourth mutant film is expected to start within the next 30 days. - Mania Movies, 9/11/07 [link]
Jackman is taking meetings and signing cheques in an attempt to get the movie made down under. That way, I’m guessing, he can go straight from “Australia”, which he’s shooting now, into ‘Wolverine’ - and if any ADR or re-shoot commitments pop up for the former, he can just drive down the road and get it done; no passport needed. - Moviehole, 8/26/07 [link]
The project is still expecting to be released in 2008 by Fox. Gavin Hood (Oscar Winning director of Tsotsi ) has been chosen as the director. David Benioff (a big fan of the X-Men comic series) is writing the screenplay. When Benioff was asked which themes will show up in this next film, he responded... “I went back and reread the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries, and the Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X." - Mania Movies, 8/3/07 [link]
David Benioff, a writer who broke into Hollywood after adapting his own novel, The 25th Hour, into a movie script eventually directed by Spike Lee in 2002. And for those worried about Benioff’s juice, Jackman promises the writer’s got the snikt-y goods. “He’s probably the hottest writer going around town,” gushed Jackman to sources. “He was beating down our door to write this movie because he’s the most passionate Wolverine fan. He’s followed all of the books since he was 9 years old. For us, it’s one of those rare combinations where you have a writer who has all these Oscar-winning directors wanting to work with him and he’s like, ‘I want to do Wolverine!’” According to Benioff, that’s no exaggeration. “I’ve been reading Wolverine comics for 23 years,” admitted the writer. And while he couldn’t discuss specific elements of his script, Benioff did hint at his favorite Wolvie stories. “I went back and reread the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries, and the Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X.” - Wizard Universe, 8/2/07 [link]
"We have not signed a director yet. Fox has not signed a director yet. There are a lot of people in the mix. I think it's very close; I've thought that for four or five weeks now. I think Wolverine will be released [before Magento]." - Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio, IGN.com, 6/14/07 [link]
"It is out to directors and no, I haven't heard anything," Jackman said. "It's hard because we're approaching very A-list directors so you can't give it to 20 of them at once.". - 11/12/06
