The Hunter
Darwyn Cooke (w) - Darwyn Cooke (a & c)
Darwyn Cooke, the Eisner-Award-winning writer/artist of such classics as DC: The New Frontier, Selina's Big Score, and The Spirit, now sets his artistic sights on bringing to life one of the true classics of crime fiction: Richard Stark's Parker. Stark was a pseudonym used by the revered and multi-award-winning author, Donald Westlake.
The Hunter, the first book in the Parker series, is the story of a man who hits New York head-on like a shotgun blast to the chest. Betrayed by the woman he loved and double-crossed by his partner in crime, Parker makes his way cross-country with only one thought burning in his mind-to coldly exact his revenge and reclaim what was taken from him!

In the follow-up series to the smash hit Star Trek: Countdown movie prequel, we see for the first time the real motivations behind Spock's decision to live on Romulus, and follow as he looks back on what brought him to this place in his life. Inner Monologue
To help celebrate our 10th anniversary, each month the newsletter will feature thoughts from different members of the IDW team. Our June "inner monologue" brings thoughts from Tom Waltz, one of IDW's great editors.

Picture illustrated by Steph Stamb |
Hi. My name is Tom Waltz and I'm a comic book addict-and since I both edit and write comic books for IDW, that particular addiction tends to come in handy. For those who don't know me, I've been an editor for IDW for nearly 2 1/2 years now. I first came to IDW's attention as a writer when Ted Adams (who now claims he was suffering from temporary insanity at the time) agreed to publish CHILDREN OF THE GRAVE, the creator-owned graphic novel by artist Casey Maloney and yours truly. After that, Editor-in-Chief (and fellow 80's hair band aficionado) Chris Ryall asked if I'd be interested in doing a bit of freelance editing for the Gene Simmons-created Simmons Comics Group imprint at IDW. I was... and did... and have seen my editorial role at IDW evolve dramatically since then. I now handle most of the movie license projects (ASTRO BOY, TERMINATOR: SALVATION, UNDERWORLD, GALAXY QUEST, GHOST BUSTERS, etc.), as well as other special non-niche licensed projects. And, I continue to be allowed to write (maybe Ted's insanity wasn't so temporary after all), including work on GENE SIMMONS ZIPPER, SILENT HILL: SINNER'S REWARD, and FINDING PEACE (with co-creator Nathan St John). I currently have a number of new writing projects in the works, most notably a creator-owned graphic novel AFTER THE FIRE with artist Guiu Vilanova that I swear is the greatest thing since sliced bread AND peanut butter! |
