WEDNESDAY COMICS #1 (OF 12)
Chuck Moore on the issue!
There are event driven books and then there are books that are a bit of an event. Wednesday Comics from DC clearly falls into the later of those two categories. After a couple years (quite literally) of weekly DC titles, they're back with a 12 issue breather that has this reader intrigued, both for the physical dimensions of the issue and its depth of creator backing with each story.
First, in terms of size, Wednesday Comics is breaking the mold. Harkening back to the classic Sunday comics section found in many newpapers (yes, they actually do still make those), I get the clear feeling that DC was looking to do something a bit retro. Here, the issue is a 16 pager that actually unfolds to a full 28" x 20". These aren't just regular comics blown up to the larger size, but rather traditional comics filling the page with as many as 16 panels at a time.
Personally, I'm looking forward to both the stories and the feel of this one. From Adam Kubert doing Sgt. Rock to Paul Pope doing Adam Strange to Neil Gaiman doing Metamorpho, this was an easy choice for this week's Hot Shot.
