Secret Six #13

Chuck Moore on the issue!

Since this is a holiday filled week, this issue doesn't actually come out until tomorrow so I have yet to read it. That said, when I look down my new release list, it comes out at the top of my MUST READ list for this week.

Why? Gail Simone is writing circles around much of the competition here month after month and I've been consistently impressed how well she can take characters like Bane and Scandal Savage (who have both seen some truly weak character moments in past series) and deliver scenes laced with soul filled clarity that make you wonder why you haven't been a fan of them since day one. Simone's ability to do this with Bane in particular just a few issues back made me instantly a serious follower of this title.

Simone has a wonderfully twisted approach to this series. Some of the humor and situations the team finds themselves in just feels fresh. It's narratively put together in an very interesting way where you can't always guess exactly what's going to come next (how refreshing). Also, the artwork of Nicola Scott and Doug Hazelwood (as you will see below) is a true score a delivers consistently wonderful visuals.

Because these are "B", "C" and even "Z" list characters, Simone has the ability to go where she pleases with the story and regularly bring in twists and turns that you just don't get with more established and branded characters. Ragdoll alone is worth the price of admission. Seriously, when you hit your store this week, give this title a try. You will not regret it.

The Official Word

War breaks out on the new Devil's Island and the Six are split in half. Now they're on opposite sides and ready to die (or kill) for their cause! But what in the world are they fighting over that's strong enough - and brutal enough - to take down Wonder Woman?
