Indy-Pendant is the first column ever written by Brant W. Fowler running from May 2005 to January 2007. It's a focus on independent comics creators, publishers and titles. These are the reprinted archives, which were originally published on www.comicavalanche.com.
[Devil's Due no longer publishes the title MU listed below, and the Studio Ice website is gone as well.]

What up my peeps? First off let me thank everyone for all your support. I was informed the other day that I have around 100 consistent readers! That's awesome and I am so thankful that I am able to provide you all with something you enjoy reading.
It seems recently in my life there have been a lot of changes in a lot of areas, and this column is following suit. From now on this column will come to you on Sundays. I hope this doesn't conflict with your reading pleasure. My intent was to add one title review on Saturdays and do features on Sundays, but that is something that will have to develop in time. So now you have something to look forward to.
Just one title this week, but it's a cool one! This title caught me by surprise, and I'm glad it did!
MU
MU is brought to us by Studio Ice via Devil's Due Publishing. It's a high concept fantasy tale based on a 3D online game produced by Webzen with impeccable writing and extraordinary art. I wasn't able to catch the first three issues of this title, but the fourth blew me away. Now I will be looking for the first three for sure as well as checking out the game that birthed this title.
To set it up, here's a little back-story on the title.

Issue 1 - This dark god Secneum came to the continent of Mu wreaking havoc. Two wizards defeated Secneum and his armies and saved the world. Now, a thousand years later, a scholar finds out that Secneum is coming back. Now it's up to a librarian to convince the feuding nations of Mu to band together.
Issue 2 - The scholar, Icarus Estro forges an alliance to continue his quest while Antonias Kalain continues to be victorious over MU. Meanwhile, we flashback 1,000 years to once again follow the two wizards, Etramu Renos and Kundun Mephis as they face off against Secnum.
Issue 3 - The two heroes face Secneum and his army in the final bloody battle heard round the continent of MU. Forward 1,000 years we see Icarus and Zak still on their quest and Antonias is greatly insulted. The hour of Secneum's return is nearing, and with it the end of the world, which brings us to...
Issue 4 - This is where I jump on. Icarus, Zak and the elven maiden Frin fly toward the forests Noria when they are attacked. Antonias and his army have discovered the 1,000 year old secret, the city of Kettuhotum, city of the damned. This issue is full of seeing the future, prophecies being fulfilled, loved ones meeting their final fate and more as the first chapter of this epic tale comes to a close.

Andrew Nabb (Ghostbusters comic) and Manson Kahn have done an excellent job bringing this tale to life in comic form with eloquent yet easy to follow dialogue and characterization worthy of a best selling fantasy novel or screenplay. And their words are brought to life by the extremely talented art team of Mark Lee, Kano Kang and Zack Suh, who use a hyper photorealistic approach that inexplicably makes the art jump off the page further pulling you into the story. I was totally and utterly impressed with this book and will be putting it on my subscription list.
Next week a return to features as I bring to you the projects of Infinity Uprising, 'cause that's how I roll!
