A Word From One of the Creators
From the desk of Eric Ratcliffe
This was one of my favorites to write if only because of how it reestablishes the dynamic between Bill and I. I like to think of it as just Eric managing to find new ways to screw with Bill (though don't worry, he's going to turn things around on me soon enough).
As you can see, Chad did something incredibly interesting by mixing real images at a convention with our two comic versions and I think it worked really well here. He took an art risk and I definitely loved the idea.
Now for that end joke...Clint Barton/Ronin, who I guess is our first "guest star", though we don't reveal if it's him or a cosplayer (I saw a really cool Ronin cosplay with a Mockingbird months back). The journey Clint's been on since he returned in House of M has been fairly interesting to me. Sure, he's not the same lovable archer that we all knew him to be almost a decade ago, but the heart of the character is still there. Brian Michael Bendis, Fabian Nicieza, Jim McCann and others who have handled him the last decade of adventures of stories have really evolved the character and given him some unique new layers. The odd peace he's made with Wanda after what she did, the reunion with the first real love of his life (yes I know Bobbi wasn't the first one that Clint fell for, but she was really in my mind completely his first love. Karla/Tasha and others don't come close)...
The moment that I knew Brian got the character was when he first returned and went to Japan with the New Avengers and he and Peter argued over ninja healthcare. It made me smile and showed me the character very much was still there. The Ronin suit is lame, I agree there. I like the redesign without the mask and I really think he's about to get the Hawkeye suit back.
Oh, and of course Billl's final line is the classic Daffy Duck moment from Looney Tunes which I guess makes me more Bugs Bunny.
So what's up for next week? Bill gets Eric a present and, well, you're just going to have to wait 7 days to see what it is! See you here next week, folks!
