Illustrative Score

by Brant Fowler

Artist Ira Marcks has created a unique amalgamation of a graphic novel and a music video which he calls the Illustrative Score. In his own words, "it's sort of like a 45 minute music video with one sliding frame. But it's also like a graphic novel told in a single, 50 foot long panel."

Set to a musical score by The Few Moments, this "long panel" flows from left to right slowly as the tones of the music set the mood and masterfully match the imagery, which shifts from standard moments to artistic interpretations all done in a painterly and slightly abstract nature.

According to the website hosting the video, the project is meant to "capture the raw energy and conceptual creativity of the visual artist in the same way the recording studio captures that of musicians." And it does just that. It gives you a peak inside the artist's head letting you in on the creative process through this unique combination of music and art.
