The Avengers have arrived in the future, to Kang and his forces fighting Ultron. Thor is just flying around destroying everything. As Bucky-Cap ponders a kill-shot on Kang, out of nowhere come the future Avengers to very quickly defeat them. Upon awakening, they come face-to-face with the Maestro and a very old Tony Stark.

I really enjoyed the 2nd tier characters like Killraven and the Maestro. Hell, did I see Devil Dinosaur hanging out briefly too? I dunno, but that's one of the great things about these time-spanning tales. ANd what's really nice is that I don't exactly see how this story pans out in the end. Bendis has really come into his own as an Avengers writer.

The real enjoyment of this issue is found with the art. I'm not much of a fan of John Romita Jr. as of lately, but this issue kicked so much ass in the art department. There's some great visuals, from all out war against a futuristic Ultron to Galactus setting up shop to even martian invaders, all handled like a pro by Romita. I've been critical of his art in the past but this is a good-looking issue. I know colorists don't get enough credit but give credit to Dean White, because he makes it all look pretty.

At first, I wasn't enjoying this run of Avengers as much as I could have. Now, I'm getting ready for the long haul. I have plenty of faith in Bendis to fabricate a great story, but if Romita keeps up the visuals, it could really cement this as a great story for years to come. This has quickly become my favorite of the Avengers books.
