Zen Intergalactic Ninja Gets Major Relaunch at 2008 Comic-Con

He may never have entirely left the world of pop culture, but comic-book superhero Zen Intergalactic Ninja is coming back in a major way at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

The blue-skinned alien bounty hunter who burst upon the scene 21 years ago in 1987 is about to have his "second coming" that starts with an all-new ongoing series from Devil's Due Publishing.

Zen Intergalactic Ninja will be written by superstar scribe Joe Casey (Superman, X-Men). The first book in the rebooted series will be released in October.

Fans who read Zen Intergalactic Ninja back in the day will have the opportunity to meet the ET's creators, Steve Stern and Dan Cote, at Comic-Con. The duo will be signing a special convention-only edition that features their first collaboration in several years.

"This is a wonderful way for us to meet fans old and new," said Stern. He and Cote, who has since become a top toy industry designer for the likes of Mattel, MGA and Spinmaster, will be appearing at the Devil's Due booth #2265 from 10-11am on Thursday and 3-4pm on Saturday.

Zen also appears in the August/September issue of Heavy Metal magazine that will be available at Comic-Con, in a story written by Stern and illustrated by Joel Orbeta. 5,000 promotional copies of the issue will be given away during the event.

The first in a series of trade paperbacks collecting classic Zen stories will be published by Devil's Due this November, in time for the holidays.

"This is really a renaissance for Zen," said Cote. "Fans who remember the action figures, videogames and other cool stuff can expect to see more in the near future."
